I love how Opeth is evolving, or aging if you like. Like a fine wine. Love 'em!

Absolutely. :) Mikael has never created anything as heart-wrenching as Faith in Others (Burden is a close 2nd).

Absolutely! Call me a fanboy if you want, but I think the last 4 records are amazing. I love Opeth’s entire catalog, but the new stuff is just godlike prog that nothing else compares to.

In fact you don't have to growl to be one of the best prog group !!!!...... Don't change anything Mickael ,you have certainly the greatest voice in progressive rock nowadays !!! the music of heritage & pale communion is so amazing !!! keep to rock on !!

As soon as this album was released, Opeth shot straight to the top of my most listened list. I still can happily listen to it in it's entirety and there's still new things i'm picking out... And that's after a good 30 plays through. Fucking commendable album. Anyone who says otherwise hates music.

"we're not a jam band who improvise and sometimes sound great" :) The last Opeth album was the best thing they've done and one of the best albums from last year and I'm delighted he says the new stuff might sound a bit like Goblin! I love that band too.

Both of their recent albums were great. They tried something different and apparently people got butt hurt. They are talented musicians and people can't get past the METAL opeth turning to more traditional sounding. They'll be back to it eventually. Just enjoy the art.

Never been a death metal fan. Love Heritage and Pale Communion. Occasional songs from the other albums have always impressed me but personal taste I just cannot get past the throating growling. Listening to the latest stuff though it just seems like there are so many places to take this "prog" era of Opeth. Such talent and versatility. One of my new favorite bands.

+paulyphonica you listened to the damnation album? no death growls in that record, and one of my favs :)
@GaudyGabriev

+paulyphonica I was like that. I got into Opeth when there was only Damnation as a pure prog album, fell in love with it. And then out of straight need to hear more of their music I started to "force" myslef to listen to other albums, with the result that today Ghost Reveries is actually my favourite.

+GaudyGabriev yes I too have been listening to Ghost Reveries. I still tune out the growling for the most part, but there is some really amazing instrumental and vocal music on this album.

Now that its been two years since the album has come out, I'll say that its a well done album. The songs are varied and the songwriting is strong. And most important - the band achieved their mission of created a fresh album that they're happy with. I will make one small fan request - make the next one heavy as shit, even if its not death metal. Cusp of Eternity rocks hard and a whole album like that would go over well with fans and would look great in Opeth's discography I think

And where's my beloved opeth-type growl? Has Mikael abandoned it? I miss it very much. Oh, c'mon! Without growl Opeth seems so incomplete. I could forgive the previous album, but getting rid of it completely, disturbs the whole image of Opeth I have been used to so far.
@Salomon_G

His growling voice is screwed. He can't do it as well anymore. I miss it too, but you don't want him pushing something that doesn't work anymore, you'd be complaining about that too.

Nem33 I saw them a month ago, and Mikael can pull of the dark growl just as well as ever. This myth of Mikael not having his growl anymore really needs to die already.

I've watched the recent videos. It's not as good as before. He doesn't do it as much so I'm sure his voice is conserved a bit. But he can't do it regularly anymore. You could hear it deteriorating over the course of a few years going back to 2010. In Opeth and Bloodbath. Now he doesn't growl on Opeth records and isn't in Bloodbath.

Opeth used to be a great band. It's not because they stopped growling in their music. It's because they have completely abandoned their unique sound. Heritage and Pale Communion both suck. There is no structure in either of those albums. Just a bunch of random shit thrown together.

***** I'm glad they never tried writing another song like Black Rose Immortal, cause that song broke Morningrise in my opinion. It should have at least been split into 3 songs or 4. The other songs on Morningrise are great, but BRI is such a chore.

I've never been able to finish Pale Communion. I think it is their worst album, and one of the worst I've ever heard. With that said, I'm glad they made it. Being able to do what you want as a band and still have people enjoy what you do is good. People I know who love prog rock became fans because of this album. That makes me happy.
