The saddest part about this is that Lady Di called the show after so many years because of early onset dementia. As her brain deteriorated she began doing things she used to do in earlier years, like calling the show. Notice how she forgets a bunch of stuff in this video about her past. Her entire 2013-2016 run on the show was just a sad example of a lady who ruined her life, on her final days of some level of coherence, before losing her mind.

While it’s a good theory, it’s not exactly correct. She called the show on this day because she had just been at the liquor store with Marion and Marion told her to call in. Marion and lady di had a major falling out between 2006 and 2013 due to Di’s homelessness and drinking. They were just starting to get back into talking and hanging out. She doesn’t truly forget about her past, she is simply “forgetting” things that she deems embarrassing. It’s easier to say you forget than to try to explain past humiliation.

I wonder why she stopped calling, what with her obsession with the show. I so badly want to know what happened in those years. One long crack binge? Tsunami victim? Turned into a water buffaler by a witch?

00:42 she says the last time she was on Opie and Anthony was 2002, she is definitely suffering from some memory loss since this video says this is from 2013, there's a really sad Lady Di clip from the Opie and Jim show where it's very clear she has dementia, Colin Quinn happened to be in studio that day and he didn't say much during the phone call cuz I think he could tell she wasn't doing good, stupid Opie kept trying to do bits on her but to me it seemed like Jimmy was giving her one last time doing the thing she loved most (2nd to getting drunk) calling the show and getting bashed

@@sweetpotatofries99 Part of me wants to think that in a very out-of-character moment of self-awareness, she got the hint that they weren't taking her calls anymore, and stopped waiting on hold for hours. I'm genuinely interested in when she stopped trying to call in the first time. I wouldn't be surprised if she kept calling until late 2007.

LADY DI: I may benefit from watching reruns. SAM: How would you benefit from watching reruns? LADY DI: I don't know, I have no idea. She attempts to argue that watching TV is beneficial to her and is immediately unable to defend it or explain what she means. I've never before heard someone make a point that had such little thought behind it.

why did Di EVER think she had a shot at a salesperson job of any sort? She's completely physically off-putting with no charisma of any kind. Backroom work at best might have worked for her.

I do wonder if interviewing Lady Di, with her lack of focus and evasiveness, is what ultimately prepared Sam to be a relatively competent interviewer. His incisive questioning is really interesting to see unfold.

It wasn't hard to get info out of Di. You either yelled and called her a liar until she fessed up. Or worse, you threaten to hang up on her. She was so self obsessed and attention starved, she would do anything to get it.
