But yeah you dream something horrible has happened, either something that's your fault or people blame you for, and you feel terrible and anxious, then you wake up and for a few seconds you still believe it to be real, then you realize "Holy shit - it wasn't real! I was dreaming! Everything's fine!" and it's the BEST fucking feeling in the world.

Yeah, sleep paralysis, I used to get that when I was a kid. Apparently it's your brain stuck between sleep state and awake. Your consciousness is awake and aware but your muscles haven't 'engaged'. REM sleep kind of 'disables' your muscles to prevent you from acting out your dream actions. With sleepwalkers this is what isn't working properly. With sleep paralysis it's the opposite problem, your muscles don't 'reactivate' when you wake up so you end up just lied there terrified. It fixes itself after a few minutes, though.
