"Opium" is a song composed in 1931 by Guy d'Abzac and Charlys and sung by the the music-hall singer Marcel's. This song was adopted and popularized by French soldiers during the Indochina War, particularly by marine troops.
"Opium" est une chanson composée en 1931 par Guy d'Abzac et Charlys et chantée par Marcel's, un chanteur de café concert. Ce chant sera adopté et popularisé par les soldats français durant la guerre d'Indochine, notamment par les troupes de marines.

La France a perdu contre le Vietnam à Dien Bien Phu en 1954. La France a fait beaucoup de choses brutales envers le peuple vietnamien, la France a brûlé des pagodes, la France a injustement tué des civils, la France a exploité le travail du peuple vietnamien, ... Si la France a fait de bonnes choses pour le Vietnam, Alors pourquoi le soulèvement de Cochinchine contre les colonialistes français ? Pourquoi les gens de tout le pays se sont-ils soulevés pour expulser les Français ?

Enfant dans mon village de Corse je me rappelle des militaires venant en permission. Les corses étaient Nombreux en Indochine. On peut dire sans exagération Que c' était le temps où Saigon parlait Corse.

Considering the 2 wars China lost facing UK, France, and USA who were pushing for Opium business in China (while installing a prohibition on their land), the request seems ironic :) Melody is good, but make some research ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium_Wars

@@JulienMR Precisely the point. Opium has had a catastrophic effect on China, a wound only healed by Mao. Such is similar to the point of the French song.

Je t'invite a écouter la version militaire (en particulier la version de la promotion Général Fourcade) le sens profond est bien loin de parler juste d'opium

Il fut un temps où l'état français a officiellement créé la "régie de l’opium" pour vendre cette drogue (surtout aux Chinois) et financer l'Indochine... L'interdiction des ventes d'Opium par la Chine mena à 2 guerres, contre l'Angleterre, la France et les USA, que la Chine perdit. Cette période est un peu oubliée, et pas très glorieuse...
