One of the great successes of this movie is the audience being able to feel the enormous weight on these people's shoulders throughout, even as it delves into things like their personal lives and quirks. It is one thing to know that the invention and use of the atomic bomb was a turning point for humanity, it is another to FEEL that throughout movie via the atmosphere and characters. It also makes you appreciate how many different fields and people were necessary for this project to come together. It wasn't just a marvel of scientific minds, but a huge engineering and industrial effort.

And it just won 7 oscars. RDJ won his first one, Cillian Murphy, Director Nolan, best picture, cinematography, editing, score. All deserved. Very happy about that. It wasn't nominated for visual effects, because there weren't any. So impressive.

Two interesting trivia bits: 1. For Olivia Newton-John fans: When Oppenheimer went to study in Germany, the teacher he studied under was Max Born, also known as Olivia Newton-John's grandfather. 2. For Leave It To Beaver fans: Before she became an actress, Madge Blake (a.k.a. Mrs. Mondello - - she also played Aunt Harriet on the original Batman series) - and her husband worked on the Manhattan Project, specifically in the testing department.

Ludwig Goransson really brought it with the musical score, and now he has two Oscars before the age of 40. I'm looking forward to hear future compositions from him.

Since OPPENHEIMER was the father of the atomic bomb, it figures that the movie wiped out the competition for Best Picture. You should read the book it’s based on. AMERICAN PROMETHEUS. And check out the documentary on Peacock: To End All Wars

While I did enjoy this film a lot, I still think Memento is Nolan's best work because it's so lean and focused. I often find myself wishing that Nolan would return to making slightly "smaller" films like that.

Oppenheimer was 5 miles from the blast. General groves was 10 miles away. Others were 20 miles away. But the light from the bomb could be seen 160 miles away. The actual nuclear bomb only contained 13 pounds of plutonium.

Gotta absolutely watch Tenet! But I'll be one to tell you, you're going to be lost for the first half or so of the movie before it all starts getting clearer. And even then, it's only on repeat viewings that it becomes really fantastic; cause this movie arguably more than any of Nolan's others I think really demands watching it more than once.

I do find it a little...erm...amusing that it was Matt Damon's character who quietly shunted away Casey Affleck's character before he could do more damage. I wonder if that is how that happened in real life...regarding the actors.

Cillian Murphy lived on a VERY calorie restricted diet during the filming specifically so he could get that wirey, gaunt look, as the real Oppenheimer was built just like that.

The complaints about the sex scene are ridiculous, if any movie ever had a sex scene that was needed and is not gratuitous it is this one. I wouldn't say it's my favourite Nolan film, but all of them are so great it doesn't really matter to me what people have as their number one.
