The shop wouldn't allow the sale to opera. Remember when she lost a lot of weight? now she's fat again and now her money won't be able to buy her an extension on life. what a waste of life. if I were her I'd lose weight and try to live longer to enjoy my wealth. what a waste.

#bighands69 Hello? It's not a fear of a stranger. Let's see the fact the bag was displayed on the shelf which means it's meant to be sold. According to your theory all customers are strangers which means whoever could be able to get the bag and which means they would sell it to a person who looks eligible which means Oprah didn't SOMEHOW.

Oprah, when I was was young ,growing up, some family members called me niger or black. I told myself, "I don't care ,I love myself forever & my honey brown color ". All kinds of put downs, cold shoulders & deprivation of being included in my original family followed me all of my life..Yeah, relied on God & one of my closest sister 4 love& acceptance. I'm 60 now& my mom has me sleeping in her porch.I had a room 4 rent that ended on 1-31-20. I had no time to look around 4 a new place to live because of covit-19. raceandcrime I doubt Oprah, with her degrees and billions of dollars, is concerned about any set of questionable statistics or books detailing how inferior she is because she is of African ethnicity. As a matter of fact, I doubt that any black person who has achieved success and beaten the odds gives the rhetoric found in your sources any credence at all. Why should they? So tell me Raceandcrime, what have you done to better your community, to show your white superiority, how many degrees have you earned? How many businesses have you established? And don't tell us what white people as a whole have accomplished, what have you, as an individual brought to the table. We already know what Oprah's done to demonstrate her superiority over you and your kind.

white people are afraid of the blacks that are displayed on television. These are the same blacks from whom the majority lives in the city, are victims of the 1984 crack epidemic (I've done my research). When these blacks are displayed on television, that is where the stereotypical mindset comes in. I'm not saying all whites are racist. I had the opportunity to live in a suburban area with all kinds of different people. There has been a gradual attack on american citizens and we're all effected differently based on our wealth and reality.

THE COLOR OF CRIME go to that website bro, as to fear of black men, brain scan studies coupled with image variation and testing shows ALL people are the most afraid of the young black man, your brain can't lie... they were shown pictures of old white women, and a variety of people and the brain lit up with the most fear when young blacks were pictured, male of course --- this is good evolution and good survival on the part of humans

Yes , just recently my mother and I went to a Thai restaurant. My mother loves Thai food , so we went. When we were walking in , this white man who was walking out says " You guys shouldn't come in here , because it's too expensive. " At first I thought he was looking out for us so we asked him " did you eat here ? " he said yes. So when my mother and I sat down to look at the prices , the prices were reasonable. Then that's when it hit me. He said it because he simply looked at us and thought we couldn't afford it .

Iola, I believe there are people on here that just don't understand because they have not been and will never be in a situation like this. So for the most part, they will judge based on their ignorance. I don't say this to offend anyone, but that is the best word to describe this mentality. Oprah is smart and she knows better than to get angry over such things. You all are talking about that that poor sales woman. If it wasn't racism, it was, nevertheless, still rude and distasteful. Oprah handled that with class. You all don't care to hear about stories like this, but why come here, and why would you comment? Oprah is going to continue being Oprah. She's not worried about that lady or what others have to say. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have been angry with that lady. When you know who your are, and you know there's no one on this earth that needs to validate you, then you don't become angry with such nonsense. I don't care if someone calls me the N word, and I don't care if someone doesn't like me for the color of my skin. Some Blacks do not come to this mindset in life, and it's sad. They care too much about what others think about them, and I really believe this is why most Blacks are defeated in life and oppressed. White men don't keep them oppressed, they keep themselves oppressed because they don't believe in themselves, and they truly believe they are a worthless N word.

Dave Dorsey Black people have been lynched, ridiculed, have been referenced in a derogatory manner throughout America's history.. We are STILL victims of racism today. The only difference is that whites are more subtle in their approach because they know that there's no way that they'd get away with things they've done in the past presently. Were those people allowed a chance to defend themselves? I think not. Your comment was an example of hypersensitivity and the unwillingness to become aware- qualities that are plentiful among whites.

In one of her stories, she said to the employee, "Do you know who I am? And the employee said no & Opera said, "I am Opera Winfrey. Have you seen my show?" On another story she told about this store, Opera had the handbag/purse in hand & the store wouldn't let her buy it. They said they couldn't sell it to her. The employee of the store said nothing happened. Opera asked to see the handbag, she got it for her & she bought it. She felt honored to have Operah in her store.

No, she is NOT making it better by creating an international incident. She is causing more division. That is not going to move us toward living as one. She needed to have the store owner/manager take the shop clerk aside and deal with it one on one, or correct the young woman's attitudes or treatment of her customer. THAT is how you heal the division. By educating people or showing them why the behavior or actions are inappropriate. Finding out what really motivated the rudeness, and NOT making assumptions about it. Not by shaming them on social media where a bazillion people can cackle about it. And then if you're the rude store clerk, you can never make amends for it. (Assuming it really happened the way O said it did). When you're shopping at stores where things cost $38,000 per item, the store clerks probably won't show many customer a lot of things unless the customer thinks they "pass muster." Standards in Europe and esp. Switzerland are different. There is a lot of "old money" there. If you're not part of the "old money" crowd, you will be treated differently. It's a class thing, not a race thing! Am not saying the snobbery is right, nor the classist attitude. Tina Turner lives in Switzerland, doesn't seem to have an issue with living in a predominantly "white" European nation. Oprah is endlessly looking for offense and racism everywhere she goes. If you go looking for offense in others, you are likely to find it! No, Oprah, you are clueless about Swiss culture. This is not about racism, this is about YOU and your inability to grasp the context of the situation and how people shop in very high end stores in Europe. Oprah rules by bludgeoning people who displease her. Not by negotiation or mature behavior.

i love oprah and ireally find it odd how close this story is to the one she spoke about experiencing during her rome trip. the fact that she shifts in her seat uncomfortably makes me nervous. but what makes me more nervous is how this could happen not just once, but twice as she says it has. i have no doubts that racism exists because ive experienced it first hand. but i especially feel saddened that a particular race can be associated with poverty and various other unfactual assumptions. But more so im saddened that even in the hight of her glory, some cant see her for who she trully is. shes helped so many. and regardless of your own personal views on this video, you gotta respect a woman that selfless. Thanks Oprah. p.s. give us more detail next time if you can so i can differentiate between the two stories and learn something new! not that youre reading this, but ill send ya the mental note!

I noticed the uncomfortable shifting in the seat too....unusual for her! I've not heard the Rome story. But that is curious. I like that you sent her a mental note 🙏😊 with how spiritual she is, I'm sure she received it xx

Truthfully the only time I hear the "N" word spoken aloud is from black people on television, usually comedians. I don't think about the word nor does it come to my vocabulary, It seems to me if you want the word to slip from memory and the lower class vocabulary, the people that use it have to stop, especially the ones most offended by it. I know of racism as a victim of it. First as an English speaking person growing up in Quebec "Linguistic racism laws" Bill 101 and Bill 78. Then in the USA as an immigrant. But to all you hateful people kept busy by a negative closed mind, I say my best revenge has been success. While you were focused on hatefulness and negativity, for all it's efforts, it left you with nothing but worrying about the bills. I'm laughing and planning my next adventure.
