Why do these chargers have such a horrible interface forcing me to read the manual or watch a video everytime I use this thing? This is a serious question and I'm not trying to bash the product. I expect to see an individual button for each operation, each button should be clearly labeled what it is using a word we understand. No more push and hold multifunction buttons, these require a manual as nobody can remember what to do. Every light should have printed words next to it telling me what it is and why its on.

Great video, very informative. I have one question. In the video you mention the Optimate 4, 6 & 7 are good down to -40C. I am looking at the Optimate 5 for my vehicle and the website says -40C rating as well. Was it left out of the video on purpose or was its inclusion just missed? I want to make sure I get one of the -40C ones as I live in northern Canada. Thank you!

I am using OptiMate 4 Dual Program. When charging starts, the power lamp (1) and The (5) lamp comes on, and after a while, only the (1) and (4) lamps light up. AMPS lamp is off This condition lasts for more than 24 hours. Is this normal? The battery was 12.85V before charging the TTZ10S. The lamp number is the LED number in the manual.
@OptiMate
@OptiMate 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed information. When the power lamp (1) and lamp (5) come on initially, it indicates that the charger is assessing the battery condition. Afterward, when lamps (1) and (4) are lit and the AMPS lamp is off, it means that the battery is fully charged and the charger has switched to a maintenance mode to keep the battery at an optimal charge level. Given that the voltage was 12.85V before charging, it suggests that the battery was nearly fully charged to begin with, so the charger is likely maintaining the battery. This is normal. If you continue to see this condition for more than 24 hours and are concerned, you might want to double-check the battery's health and connections. If you have any more questions or need additional support, feel free to ask!

I have the OptiMate 2 DUO x 2 BANK. I have only used it once in the last 2 years. I am using it today and only one bank lights up when it's connected to the car battery, while the other side does not light up when it is connected to the second car battery. There is a OptiMATE CABLE O-23, Extender, 'Artic'/10 Amp, 15ft / 4.6m connected to the wires on the second bank and then the other end goes into the battery. I have tried to swap the two banks with the two batteries. It is conclusive that the lights on the second bank do not turn on. What does this mean?

Hello, I would like to buy Optimate 5 6/12V (TM320) for motorbike (10 Ah) and car (80 Ah) battery. What does the ampmatic means? How many amps does the charger will be charging 10 Ah battery? Will it be maximum 1/10 capacity of battery (maximum A)? Thank you.
@OptiMate
@OptiMate 3 ай бұрын
Hi! AmpMatic means that the charger automatically adjusts the current to match battery size and condition. The maximum is not 1/10 A, it's actually up to 30% for AGM batteries.

Hi, I needed to move the bike from where I was charging it with an Optimate 1 DUO. Is it safe to reconnect it to continue charging? Thanks! (by the way, I left it charging throughout the night, 12 hr, and it was still yellow...)
@OptiMate
@OptiMate Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it's safe to reconnect the charger to continue charging. An OptiMate charger will never overcharge the battery, but only provide the charge that the battery needs. The OptiMate 1 DUO only has 0.6A of charging power, so depending on the size of your battery, it may take a while to fully charge. You can leave the charger connected unattended and wait till the charger has done its job.

Hello, I own an optimate 4 can bus unit to maintain the battery of my BMW 1200 GS LC and it works great on can bus mode. However, I frecuently check the motorbike through the OBD2 conector which needs having the contact on but engine off what dryes the battery. I wonder if the optimate could be connected during obd2 checking charging the battery or will detect leakage and stop charging. Anyway is there anyway I can charge baterry during long service with optimate 4. I didnt try just in case. Thank you.

Hello, I have an optimate 2 and the multimeter shows that the battery has 12.35V. I connect the charger and the yellow light stays on for 2 minutes, then it goes into maintenance mode, shouldn't it charge more and then go into maintenance mode? Or 12.35V would be enough for optimate 2 to see that the battery is charged. It is a minimum voltage limit in which the charger shows me that the battery is charged, for example the maintenance mode is 12.3-12.7V. I have another charger and if the battery reaches 12.35V, it charges up to 12.7 and then enters maintenance mode.However, after 24 hours when it is connected to the Optimate 2, the battery remains at 12.35V if I measure it with a multimeter. I expected that after 24 hours it would show at least 12.6V

Hi. I have been using optimate 3sp with much joy for 12-14 years now. looking to buy 6 select which is not avaiable where I am. however, I have a chance to buy the older version of the 7 select ( non gold series ). my objective of buying this is so that my 2 cars 60-80Ah can be charged faster. will it still be safe to use on my 2 motorcycles ? the big bike is 10 ah, smaller is 7 ah. i read before that ideally, the AH should be divided by 10 for the correct charge amps. if i have this verification that the older 7 select can do this via its ampmatic, then I can proceed to buy. by the way, Is TIM still working with you guys ? Kindly convey my warm regards if so. Please also ignore the attached file. Thank you Sham

Bought the 12v to 12v Charger, from the UK Distributor ProBike, and it stopped working after a few months, and very little use. Sent them an email, and they would not respond. So contacted parent company, Optimate in Belgium. They also did not reply, even though under their stated warranty period. Will never buy an Optimate product again, and wish I had known beforehand. Posting here so that others will be able to make an informed buying decision, as these Optimate products are very expensive. Such dishonourable business practice will catch up some day.

Hello, I was interested in the OptiMate 6 Ampmatic but reading its user manual I can see that this charger has the desulphation phase (SAVE) with 16V up to 2 h, and this mode can be activated if the battery is connected into the vehicle. Isn´t this voltage a possible problem for the car electronic system? The car user manual mentions for jump starters and other such devices not to apply more than 15V of current. I would like to have this charger but I´m worried about this high voltage if it ever comes to applied. Could it be dangerous for the car Honda Civic EX-T 2018? Thanks!

It will always be safe for the car electronics, but we recommend: If the battery is not strong enough to start the engine, remove the battery from the vehicle for charging. When the engine starts normally, the battery charger can and may always be used for charging and maintenance in the vehicle.

Hi Optimate people, tried to contact you guys via email/contact page but realize the people checking are probably crazy busy. Do you happen to know if it's possible to connect a S1000RR '23 using the 12V DIN Socket/CAN bus connection? There is almost no information on it and I can't find the connector either. Dealer and BMW neither responded or had useful information. Hopefully you guys somehow were able to connect it to that bike. Otherwise eyelets aren't a terrible second choice.

@OptiMate 8 ай бұрын
No. The S1000RR has the 'standard' CAN-bus that does not include the battery in its control. So the battery cannot be reached via the DIN socket. The best solution for you is the O-01 harness on the battery itself, and then you should check whether you have a LIPO or a Lead-acid battery.

Batteries die either through age (reached maximum cycles it can deliver) or neglect. Older batteries need more care. With the new battery make sure it is maintained when the vehicle is not in use, or at minimum charged every two weeks. A stored lead-acid battery will last longest and remain strong for longer if properly maintained when not in use. AGM will hold charge longest and is also the most expensive technology, but needs to be maintained correctly. EFB stands for Enhanced Flooded Battery - it is a better battery than typical standard flooded starter batteries. It is designed to deliver high cranking amps and continuous current, so it is a hybrid starter & deep cycle battery. Other deep cycle technologies - Lead-calcium is often used in deep cycle as this chemistry can deliver a constant current whilst keeping the voltage stable. Lead-calcium is not typically used in engine start applications. Now, one can have an AGM battery that uses lead-calcium technology and that would make it a deep cycle AGM battery. GEL batteries mean the electrolyte is combined with GEL to slow evaporation, but it is also slows peak current delivery, for that reason GEL batteries are not often used for engine start applications. The most important for all lead-acid batteries, when not in use for longer than a week maintain it at 100% and it will last longest and perform strongest.

@@OptiMate A while after the charger shows yellow LED #7, in step 8, for a stand-alone EFB battery, i disconnect the charger's power plug and plug it again after a few minutes...and about 2 hours later, - step 8 shows both the yellow LED #7 together with the green LED #6 for the same stand-alone sealed EFB battery. Is that means the battery that is first detected as not able to retain charge, is now able to retain charge? For stand-alone sealed EFB battery or stand-alone EFB battery with filler caps - what if both green #6 LED and yellow #7 LED are shown together at step 8? AGM battery that uses lead-calcium technology is better than standard AGM battery? Is such an AGM lead-calcium battery can be charged with OptiMate 7 select? All start stop batteries are all considered deep cycle batteries?

@OptiMate

Yes, it's really safe! An OptiMate charger can remain connected 24/7 without the risk of overcharging. You can charge the battery while it is still in the vehicle, or you can remove the battery and charge it on the shelf. Both practices are completely safe.

Hello I have one question. Optimate charges do not have a force mode when battery is very low? I think I already see a video on KZfaq to the force mode start. Tanks

No, it's not a force mode. OptiMate battery chargers have a save mode and can save your dead flat sulfated battery from as low as 0.5V. You might mean this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z752hJV82pu5fYE.html

The battery is not holding sufficient charge. If your battery is still connected to the electrical system it supports, the red LED #6 may be signalling a loss of current through connected wiring or 'always on' current-consuming accessories. Disconnect the charger and then reconnect after a while. If your battery isn't connected to the electrical system, the red LED #6 may be signalling that one of the cells is damaged. Then the charger can't help it.

Now tell us what the lights mean right on the charger verses having to look it up in the book. This is a HUGE fail on your part leaving most of us with a tool that we have no idea how to use, NOBODY is going to keep the manual with the charger at all times.

Hi! On our new chargers we've chosen to use a universal color code for the test light indication as found on the OptiMate 4, 6 & 7 (on the right side of the charger display) to indicate the battery's health: GREEN = healthy battery, YELLOW = the battery needs charge, RED = the battery needs charge immediately. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7iJf5Retdzbiac.html For each charger we've mentioned the charge programs - '12V' for a 12V charge program, '24V' for a 24V charge program etc. - above/below the LEDs - on the left side of the charger display. Once a selection (for our chargers that require you to make a selection, otherwise it's all automatic) has been made, charging starts automatically and you'll only have to wait for the green test light to turn full on. You can follow the charge progress as the battery level is indicated next to the LEDs in the middle. If charging doesn't start automatically, we recommend to have a look in the manual. Our manuals are also available on our website optimate1.com: Just check the 'documents' tab of your charger.

@@OptiMate I have to say I'm still confused. There is no universal code for light colors or flashes and ALL electronic devices need to stop doing this. If there is a light, then there should be a word on it or next to it describing what it is. If you can do this it will make your product much better. BTW, other than this your chargers are great.
@OptiMate
@OptiMate Жыл бұрын
We used the universal color code for traffic lights because we make chargers mainly for motorcycles and cars. When it comes to the vehicle, with a fully charged battery (green light) you're good to go. There is also a 'tick' symbol below the green test light to emphasize that the charge retention test was 'positive'. RED light means 'stop/don't drive' (because the battery needs to be charged) and there is a 'warning' below or next to it to emphasize this. However, we appreciate your feedback and are happy to hear that you love our chargers.

@@OptiMate Just trying to give some consumer feedback for future development. BTW, all electronic devices these days are confusing as hell, this is your opportunity to change that. Dropping the universal thing is the place to start, nothing is universal and everything is very specific creating the need to label each LED and button.
