Manufactoria 2022 Part 1 - the indie factory optimization game scene is awesome. This used to be a flash game, now revamped into a whole Steam game with a ton of depth and global leaderboards! This provides a very satisfying take on the optimization formula we all know and love.

I'm excited about this one. From the demo I found it had very user-friendly controls (unlike many others in this genre) so I can optimize like crazy without aggravating my RSI because it's possible to use mouse-only without dragging (I have to minimize key presses and pressure) but there are keyboard shortcuts for people who want to play fast.

These puzzles are really interesting from the point of view of regular languages and finite state machines. It's just a question of constructing a state machine that accepts a given language, and scanner-efficient solutions will be direct representations of those state machines. I was able to write down a state machine for the language and from that construct a solution before Tyler for most puzzles here, although it will not lead to area or time efficient solutions.

Is this game equivalent to Pushdown Automata? At first I noticed how similar it was to Turing Machines, but with the limitation of only reading characters in order, but also being able to add information in a stack-like fashion, it seems a lot like one. The only difference is that a classic Pushdown Automaton has separate stack and input, but perhaps they’re equivalent.
@idril871
@idril871 Жыл бұрын
it's not PDA since you're not working with a stack. In one of the intro levels, the sticker you stamped on comes after the input tape. It's closer to a Turing Machine, but so far we haven't seen any complex levels/mechanics that utilizes that much computing power, section 2 and 3 seems only on DFA level. I'm hoping to see more mechanics in later sections
@felipevasconcelos6736
@felipevasconcelos6736 Жыл бұрын
@@idril871 right, since the stamps come after the input, and you can only read them once the input is erased, you can’t use them like a PDA’s stack. I wonder if there’ll be a new mechanic that does make it context-free. Now I want to solve every level just by writing the RegEx and algorithmically converting it to a DFA.
