In answer to the reproduction question, I believe the primary canon answer is that the *sparks* are formed via *rarified energon* and serve a variety of purposes including acting as the Cybertronian heart, soul, & genetic coding (CNA) for their appearance and alt modes, which must be compatible with the spark lest the given frame/physical components be rejected. This is why when a Cybertronian loses a body part they can't just slap another spare part on-- they *must* have parts that are compatible with their spark as well as their physical systems. But I digress. Reproduction more or less just involves the formation of a spark that is then placed in a manufactured frame that is deemed compatible. I'm sure they have tests and/or scans to figure out what frames are compatible with a newly formed spark. In many continuities, the spark is naturally formed via *sacred tools* ; however, there are also continuities in which the sparks can be created by other Cybertronians through technical (asexual) means utilizing technology and the rarified energon. Upon onlining the newborns are immature in personality, but typically not infantile and helpless as is the case with organic lifeforms. Newly made Cybertronians require mentoring and discipline, as such they are typically assigned an older Cybertronian. Dependent on the continuity the newbuilds may also require an experienced Cybertronian's assistance to access and utilize their equipment and transformation abilities to prevent incidents, such as getting stuck between their root and alt modes. In short, Optimus Prime and whatever 'Bot he ends up with could have a sparkling of their own, but the chances of it having similar coding (CNA) or capabilities are slim. Remember, Optimus' body-type isn't common. In fact, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the only other Cybertronians that I recall with similar frames are Motormaster and Ultra Magnus. And, yes, I'm not counting Nemesis Prime given that he's basically a clone and clones will have the same CNA sequences.

He started as orion pax. Before the war... cybertron creates life thru the core. So no transformer has a childhood. Orion pax was a soldier during the war until the autobot leader died. So optimus went to the core, became a prime and boom! He's a prime. He changes his name to optimus (This is the war for cybertron and fall of cybertron lore)

SPOILER ALERT: THIS COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM TFP, TFWfC, TFFoC, AND TFRiD. If I am right, according to the aligned continuity, Optimus was the last prime to be made. He and the other 12 together defeated Unicron, Cybertron’s biggest threat. He then chose to be reincarnated as Orion Pax. As a consequence, he lost his memories as a prime. According to TFP, He worked at a library , (if I’m right) and became friends with a highly skilled warrior who named himself after Megatronus, another prime. Megatronus proposed to be the next prime, along with ideas for government, but Orion argued otherwise. Unintentionally, Orion became Optimus Prime once again. Megatronus became jealous, and changed his name to Megatron. He also spread his ideas for a new government with others, gaining a lot of support. Soon enough, he started a war and the events of WFC and FoC would take place. However, WoC suggests that Orion was only made a prime after the war had started and the previous prime, Zeta Prime, was killed, and Orion had previously assumed temporary command over the Autobots. TFP suggests that the Autobots took off to different planets, one of them being earth, and the Decepticons followed Optimus to Earth. FoC argues that the main cast of Autobots and other soldiers tricked the Decepticons into following them into a vortex, so that the other inhabitants can leave the no longer alive planet without any casualties, as Energon had become scarce. TFP says that Unicron was never truly defeated and makes up Earth’s core. A man named Silas attempts to figure out what makes a transformer tick, but is eventually killed by Megatron. Megatron attempts to terraform Earth into a second Cybertron, and kills Bumblebee, but then Bumblebee kills Megatron because he fell into Cybermatter when killed. This also had the consequence of fixing Bumblebee’s voice box, as they call it, but FoC claims it’s a voice chip. Cybertron is then revived with Cybermatter, but is unable to create life, only support it. Optimus then goes to find the Allspark with Wheeljack, while the other Autobots reconstruct Cybertronian buildings. Megatron is brought back from the dead by Unicron, but is consequently under his control. Unicron’s Spark is put into the vat that the Allspark was once contained in, but Optimus had to store it in the same container as the Matrix of Leadership occupies. Optimus then sacrifices himself to give rise to life on Cybertron. Megatron also resigns as the leader of the Decepticons, leaving them forever. Then TFRiD comes along. This is the one that uses the same joke way too much, nobody grows as a character, and is way too kid friendly. However, it is part of the Aligned Continuity. Bumblebee is now an officer for a new Cybertronian government. He works alongside a new character called Strongarm. At first, Optimus Prime is dead, but then he’s brought back to life not too long later. Bumblebee, for whatever reason, becomes jealous of him. (Bumblebee would’ve looked up to Optimus, but whatever) I hope this helps understand one of multiple Transformers timelines I need to type shorter comments...

In the current continuity, all Sparks (basically a transformer's soul) come from the Allspark (sorry for the pun), but the bodies they will inhabit have to be pre-built.

From what I understand with the most recent cannon, Cybertronians start out as blank shells (possibly mass produced) and then receive a spark from the Well of all Sparks. Of course in G1 they kept going back and forth, like when Wheeljack and Rachet simply built the Dinobots but then later on Megatron and then Optimus had to use Vector Sigma in order to create new combiner teams the Stuntacons and the Aerialbots. But then in season 3 Grimlock created the Technobots, again! Nothing special required he just made them like he was playing with legos.
