You have three main ways to maintain Calcium and Alkalinity levels in your reef tank: 1 - Two Part solutions, 2 - Kalkwasser, and 3 - a Calcium reactor.
Most people end up going with option #3 - it's the most affordable long term with the least chance of messing up your tank. Kalkwasser is great if you also have a problem with low PH - but it can significantly change your tank's PH and you can only dose so much of it.
Newer calcium reactors on the market like the DaStaCo remove a lot of the tuning work you need to put into old reactors, but these come at a price - they're expensive!
I'm still figuring out the best HDR settings... only really trying to use them for the videos that contain lots of coral. This looked perfect in Premiere - and then exported very dark. Will get this working one of these days..

Keep your water quality stable and your corals and fish will grow well. Stability is key!

my secret is a sulfur nitrate reactor that works like a calciumreactor in a way (it holds calcium stones as ph stabilizer) and in meantime keeps No3 in line. i only need to dose Kh because the sulfur reactor lowers Kh quite a bit.

Thank you very informative ..basically i dose manually red sea products twice a day No Pox , Alkalinity , Calcium, Magnesium .. bit of a pain but have tremendous control .

Nice video again, Im running Ati essentials.pro. i am adding 24ml of cal at the moment which is equivalent to 120ml as its concentrated 5x. I am sure at some point I will have to go with a reactor and youre right the dastaco is a great unit, here in the UK its about £1300 or $1750 US, an expensive bit of kit lol especially when Trident is imminent 😂👍

I feel like the Trident is just a fancy dosing system. It's nice in that it'll auto-adjust based on the test results though - taking a lot of the constant guesswork out of the equation as your tank's needs change. It's a good time to be a reefer with all the gadgets and gizmos we have coming out!

I know how that goes! I'm very lucky to be able to work remote for my job, so I spend all day right next to the tank.

I tried kalk in my topoff chamber but the bit that precipitates out seemed too difficult to clean out... kind of a tight space in my sump. I like being able to just pour RODI in and not worry about a mess. So I setup a separate drip for kalk when I use it, but otherwise I mainly use 2 part. Plus, kalk is rough on pumps, so I don't want to clog up my tune osmilater pump.

So what is the best way to reduce alkalinity?

Just did my tests on Hannah calcium was 343 and alkalinity was 6.7 so I think I need to dose

Yes, both seem like they're a little on the low side. Just make the changes slowly.

Kalkwasser is super easy and adds both alkalinity and calcium in a balanced fashion. I'd start with that.

Nice segment! Question, I have a new tank and my slat tends to keep my tank at 7dkh and would like to get it to 8.5. I will use a bicarbonate to reach this as not to spike ph. After reaching my goal, and the start using kalkwasser drip as I dont have sump or ato, how much spike in ph are we talking about when using kalkwasser? Kalkwasser seems like it would be a perfect item for my new tank for a while. Thanks

For me, not using a super concentrated solution, it was not a huge spike, maybe from 7 to 8 or so. I would test everything daily for a little while when starting just to keep an eye on things so you can adjust and avoid any issues
