Education, studying or engaging in arts and crafts often helped Irish political prisoners pass the long days of their captivity. This online talk explores the historical collections of Kilmainham Gaol Museum for evidence of how political prisoners used their imprisonment as an opportunity to acquire and develop skills. From a hand-drawn atlas made by a prisoner in Kilmainham Gaol in the 1800s, to Irish language classes in Ballykinlar Camp in the 1920s, this online video will look at the often surprising story of the creativity that captivity can inadvertently unleash.
