I don’t know if you have played the game or not, you probably have but just in case I will do spoiler read more I think that’s the point, Sunny and Basils suicide is pretty much imminent if you do not tell the truth, so Sunny has to overcome his guilt and fear, and tell the group that he was the one that killed Mari. It’s the only way to overcome their guilt of the accident, and they have to believe their friends will forgive them. And as implied by the secret ending clip, their friends understood the situation and they did. All they have to do is believe their friends could forgive them, and confess.
