Igbo Landing (also called Ibo Landing, Ebo Landing, or Ebos Landing) is a historic site at Dunbar Creek on St. Simons Island, Glynn County, Georgia. It was the setting of a mass suicide in 1803 by captive Igbo people who had taken control of their slave ship and refused to submit to slavery in the United States. The event's moral value as a story of resistance towards slavery has symbolic importance in African American folklore and literary history.

Been there a couple of times. It's a great place if your a business to just chill out. We all have a schedule, but this place.. the breeze.. the atmosphere is fantastic. I even thought I would attract attention because I'm black with a truck on 26s.. everyone loved it. Also you can go to the pier and catch your own crabs for dinner.. thats awesome.

I'm so glad you commented here. I'm really trying something different by coming here soon for vacation with my girl soon, but this place being a small town has me worried about the people being unfriendly toward us just for not being white.

@@NyneIX9 I am Hispanic and have visited St Simons Island many times work and vacation. I actually just got back, I was there for three weeks. Last year trip, I was there for two months. it's a very relaxing place, great atmosphere, many food places and you'll see all type of people enjoying the area. Highly recommended and 99.9% are nice, nothing to worried about. Just don't go over the speed limit, Lol as is only 25 or 35 speed limit within the Island.

@@NyneIX9 I'll be there first week in August! Historically... the area was not so friendly to minority populations. It's sad but true. Over the last 20 years attitudes have certainly changed (at least what I see/hear... but I'm just some white dude so take that for what it is). I think change is in part due to many of the good ol' boys who grew up there being priced out of the area. The island looks nothing like it did even 10 years ago. Last time I was there I saw a Trump boating rally and was surprised it was not 100% white people-- if it's safe to cruise around a Trump rally there I feel like you will be good any other day of the week! If you have not gone yet I would personally recommend checking out Gould's Inlet. It's a beach with a tiny parking lot (so get there early!) but is fairly private and you can often get a nice stretch of beach to yourself. Just be aware the sandbar here is quite large- pay close attention so you don't get stranded!

"Some of the best slave cabins" seems kind of a poor choice of words lol I would have gone with "most well preserved" or something.

@@ChadGallivanter perfect choice of words, then. Much better than my suggested "most well preserved" lol... Well, I'm sorry for my comment. It was supposed to be more funny than judgmental, but I see my mistake now. Thanks for the video!

Have spent countless days on the beaches here. Beaches are clean and sandy, not rocky. Some areas are a little muddy, but there are plenty of stretches of pure sand Sand is on the softer/finer side, but can get somewhat packed down (great for biking!). It's certainly not sharp or course. Water is muddy brown. It's not a beach you go to to enjoy the clear blue sea- but for me, it's the best beach you can find. Outside of busy holidays the beaches are never over crowded, and the people never rude.

When the water wash over some of the sand. It's like walking on wet hard clay. Which is good for me. I don't like walking on sand. ... This one has sticking standing up on it. Be careful walking. The atmosphere is good. Very strong fishy smell that fades out quickly. Beautiful place. But, some areas are still nasty towards black people.

@@hankkingsley9300 No, I don't think I do. If you only saw the beach up closer to the pier you may have that opinion. Head down past King and Prince toward Gould's Inlet and you have a nice beach. Just be wary of the currents by Goulds. They can and will carry you away.
