What a great idea! I have had 2 orbital sanders had their pads come off. I've checked the price of the pads and they cost almost half the price of a new sander and so I have bought a new sander instead. I still have the two broken sanders and now I am going to do what you do:). Thank you for sharing!!

Well that looks fairly quick but it doesn't seem like a 'dirty' solution, really quite nice. A very happy Christmas to you and all your fans Dom.

This thought might be more complicated than it needs to be, but are there any vibration issues from the wood pad weighing more or less than the original? Cool idea anyway, I might try that if my pad wears out!

i only used mine one day for a few hours and the sandpaper won't stay on, what kind of problem could be going on there
@HeavyboxesDIYMaster
@HeavyboxesDIYMaster 8 жыл бұрын
I got tired of hook and loops very fast. I like the adhesive back ones with no holes. But they won't allow dust vacuuming through the paper since there are no holes.
@HeavyboxesDIYMaster
@HeavyboxesDIYMaster 8 жыл бұрын
***** I've never tried to stick them back on. My projects tend to be large enough that I use one or more at a time. So I end up using them one at a time and wear them out. However, the ones that have some grit left, when I take them off, I fold them in half and make a half moon shape. I use these to do hand sanding, rounding edges softly, I use the straight edge to sand in corners. It's unlikely they will stick back on after removal.

Would it have been possible to use the original pad and put on new hook stuff? I have the same problem, but haven't really looked at it properly.

How is that black pad called? Where do we get it?
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 5 жыл бұрын
If you mean the black stuff that I glued to the wood, that is basically velcro. I got it online, but I do not remember where exactly. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

Velcro or sandpaper discs need more grip, these things don't last very long! Mine is almost new!
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 5 жыл бұрын
That is probably a matter of quality, although I imagine price does not always figure into it. I have had different sanding discs that differed a lot in velcro-stickiness. Thanks for watching!
@lipevolcom2
@lipevolcom2 4 жыл бұрын
You made yourself a hard plate as a floorsander would say. Would be good is you dress the disc just by running the sander on a piece o sandpaper to be sure it's all even and you don't have high spots on the disc, Other wise your sandpaper will wear more where the high spot is 😉
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good idea. It would probably make sense to mount the disc, run it over some sandpaper on a flat surface and then add the hook material. Only downside would be that you'd need to cut the holes for dust collection open by hand. Thanks for watching!

Why didnt you just place the new velcro on the old base? why make a new wooden one?
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 4 жыл бұрын
I would have had to remove the degraded hook material on the old base. Then, I would have had to make sure to get it really flat. I figured that using a piece of plywood would be the easier way to go. Thanks for watching!

Couldn't you just replenish the hook and loop on the original pad
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 3 жыл бұрын
The pad was beyond replenishing in terms of brushing it out. And to add new hook material onto the old pad, I expect I would have to remove at least some of the old and risk the pad not being properly flat anymore. Thanks for watching!

Why make a whole new plate ? Why not just replace the hook material ??
@BeInspiredwithDominic
@BeInspiredwithDominic 8 ай бұрын
That would certainly be one way to do it, if you can get the hook material to adhere to the plate. I wanted to make sure that the plate is level, which I would not be so sure about if I tried to sand off the old hook material. Thanks for watching!

buy a replacement...spend more time on more important things or build something beautiful...life is too short.
@BeInspiredwithDominic

That is certainly one way to see it. But there might be circumstances that do not allow for that - or you chose to use your time to make things rather than buy them. Both will sand, and both are possible. Thanks for watching!
