A video about the discontinued 1997 Clearly Canadian drink Orbitz. The textually enhanced lava lamp of sodas. Due to bad taste and poor sales this relic of the 90's only lasted a year before being taken off shelves for good.

I love the fact the company was like "oh people don't like the flavor let's discontinue the whole thing" rather than "OK let's just make new flavors then."

I tried a couple of these as a kid and I clearly remember how terrible they tasted, but also the consistency of the liquid was strange. I can still very clearly remember the feeling of those "balls" inside the bottle as well and overall they were awful. I did like the novelty of them, but considering my taste at the time meant I would eat or drink nearly anything marketed the kids, the fact I would hated these was bad. I think they could have made the actual drink taste a little better, but it needed so much work to improve that perhaps it was not worth it. They would have had to almost start all over other than with the novelty of them.

Honestly the simpler flavours were the best like orange or lemon but nasty flavours come from those cranberry like fruits

rlt94: No, their presentation was perfect for the 90s and the later Rave/Techno Generation. But the Problem was the awful taste of that stuff...

I would do ANYTHING for them to bring back Orbitz. This stuff was my childhood. Fond memories walking through Dufferin Mall to the EB Games while chugging back an Orbitz. Or getting it at the Keele/Anette 7/11. God I miss those days!

Used to love drinking these back in the day along with eating a beef patty and playing Rainbow Street Fighter 2. They were maybe a 6 out of 10 in terms of taste but the novelty was nice.

I remember liking them all, and distinctly the texture of the "balls", and I have fond memories of drinking these as a toddler during a '96-'97 newyears trip to Miami.

My big brother used to love this stuff!! He used to buy it at the mini mart next to my old elementary school. ( Albion street school) I hated the white one. lol

Wrong, the beads do not float due to an equal density to the liquid. The gellan gum simply works with the xanthan gum in the liquid to produce a weak gel like network, giving the liquid a yield stress.

I love these! I thought they were delicious! I remember going to my favorite liquor store to buy them. I was about 7 at the time. This was back in 1997. Wish they’d bring ‘em back. :(

I drank one of these back in 1997, I purchased it at a comic book store, I do not remember what flavor it was and I was not impressed with the taste. Probably why I never purchased any more.

If I ever got put on death row this would be my request! This was my favorite thing in the world when I was a kid! It was always my go to “reward” my family would bribe me with to “be good” when we went out 😂🙌

Geez I LOVED this drink! Use to get it all the time at Wal-mart, and drank it like at least 3 or 4 times a week! I almost cried the day I found out they discontinued it. I wish they would come back, I would soo Love ta have my new fiancee try it. It Really sux! I miss them so much. :*(

+VampressLilithxx Where did you live?! I searched Wal Mart, Target, specialty drinks stores, K-mart, etc. and NONE of them ever carried the drink when it was out.

I gave my dad one of these back in 1997 and just found it today. The balls are still floating. I will never drink it and hope it doesn't dissolve anytime soon.

This drink is VERY nostalgic to look at it... the taste and texture of those little gummy things made me wanna gag. I would never want to try it again even for nostalgia purposes.. I would collect some, but never open them

I should have kept one intact from back then. But I remember I just didn't like the feel and the consistency of it in my mouth. I remember thinking that it was kind of gross.

I remember drinking this at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. I don't remember how it tasted but I did like those little balls in there. I was probably like 7 years old.

I have never seen or heard of these drinks until now. Although we have something different here in the UK called Basil Seed drinks. They look different and maybe taste a little drink but perhaps they are inspired by the Orbitz?

Most of the flavors were great. Vanilla orange was incredible. Blueberry melon strawberry and raspberry citrus were both very good, too. Only two of the five flavors were awful: the pineapple banana cherry coconut and black currant berry. Utterly disgusting.

This is not true. I loved this drink. they weren't gross, the flavors were unique like a hawaiian punch uniqueness. sort of like a classier version of fruitopia if anyone has ever had that. It was fun to drink these. I feel like these could easily be remade and sell a lot, they are like free mini lava lamps if you never drink them, how can you lose? I think maybe clearly canadian must have gotten tired of manufacturing them. Imagine doing quality control on this drink with little orbs in it.

Definitely remember these now. Cub Foods (now "dead" too I think) was the retailer we would get if from. Yeah...I found, sort of rough going for more after 1 compared to pretty much any colas. One and done though they did look tight. I don't remember a red flavor but guess so.

+Jonathan George The Kickstarter promotion was to pre-order several cases. I went to their website: SOLD OUT! Unbelievable. Maybe this will the first time in history that Kickstarter revived a company from the dead. I hope so. I drank a lot of their bottled water when I was in college but sadly, they never sent any of the stores their Orbitz drinks so I never even saw a single bottle.

Haydn Allbutt they tasted great when they where out I drank them all the time but after 10+yrs the flavour is of course going too diminish and expire this kids now a days who never drank it when it came out wouldn't know their buying old expired ones too try now
