Hi all! 💜 I hope you're having a great week so far. This tutorial may be used to create any length of Russian Spiral rope, whether you want a necklace, or a bracelet. Just keep spiraling, and spiraling 😀, until you've reached the length of beadwork you're happy with. For more than 18" of beadwork, you will need at least 4 strands of FP beads, per color, and more beading thread, of course. I hope to see you again soon! Happy beading! 💜

I've tried so many times to make the Russian Spiral. I can't wait to give it another try with your tutorial. It can't be easy making these videos, having to hold the beads a certain way so we can see how you're doing it. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the great tutorial. I made some Russian spiral necklaces years ago, but so happy for your refresher on the step-up process which I had forgotten. Also the wire guard stage was new to me. I had been just fastening the ends together for a slip over necklace. This is so much better and looks more professional. As always, your time and effort making these videos is very much appreciated 🥰

Thank you for this tutorial, Gina! 😀 Love the idea of combining similar beads - it's a great way to use leftovers from other projects and adds extra dimension and design flair to the spiral pattern.

Russian spiral can be done in pretty much any bead you want. I've done a necklace with two colors of 11/0 Miyuki seed beads, 11/0 Toho seed beads for the "step up" beads, and Miyuki short magatamas. I've done a bracelet with 6mm Chinese crystal rounds, cut cylinder beads similar to Delicas but made in China, and Chinese crystal rondelles with 11/0 seed beads in between. Yes, the thread shows and the weave isn't as tight, but I really love it. I did another bracelet with cubes and some other shapes (I don't remember what I used in it) with the 11/0 seed beads, and it turned out great, as well. You can get so many completely different looks using this stitch, it's wonderful! 💗

Gina! My 3mm fire polish Czech glass beads arrived today. I ordered 4 strands each. Here are the colours I picked, ruby, antique beige iris luster, and bronze. These came from Eureka Crystal Beads. Hope all is well with you and family. Having a thunderstorm where I live. I fear thunder and lightening.

I've struggled understanding this stitch and never got any right, watching you made it easier to understand. I need to order some beads but I think I might have to stop start your video while beading. Do you think it would be easier to follow if I used a pencil or likes to see how I'm going. Love lorraine in Scotland 💖💖

Hi Lorraine! I think stopping and starting the video is a great idea. Also backing it up as many times as you need. With practice you will get the hang of it, and as the piece becomes longer. Just look at the first few as "practice pieces." :)

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing this technique. I've done some Kumihimo that looks similar but much different technique. This looks like fun and I can use the same seed beads as the ones I use for Kumihimo.

Thank you for the tutorial! I think the problem I have with this stitch is maintaing good tension and the shifting step up. When the beads are floppy it's hard for me to see if I'm just doing a regular stitch or the step. Do you have any tips for tension other than pulling frequently? My hands feel so dumb and clumsy doing this stitch which is humbling because I think of myself as being capable of other fine and fiddly crafts lol.

Hi Natalie! Just pull after each addition, and keep in mind that the longer it is, the more the piece will come together. You can also go back and sew through any of the spiral sections again that seem extra loos; just don't sew too tightly, or then you'll have the opposite prob. Haha. Thanks for watching!

Question 🙋🏼‍♀️ If you want to use 6/0 seed beads what size would you recommend for the smaller bead?
@ORCHIDandOPAL

Hi! I would go a size smaller for the smaller bead and use the 8's with them. Thanks for asking!

Hi Gena, I am going to surly attempt this project. Has anyone received the BB Box for May? Just wondering. I got a nice e-mail that stated there will be no charge for our June box. What a great service and care for their customers.

Hey there! There will be a larger gap in between the beads when you go to add your next color, which can be a visual clue to step up. The more you practice, the more you will recognize it. Thanks for watching!
