Transparency. All topazes found in nature, as well as processed, do not have crystal-clear transparency. Even after processing, their middle retains some slightly visible turbidity, as if the mineral has filled a small fog from the inside. All real gems have a high density. It is one of the few stones that will sink if submerged in water. Natural topaz does not have a bright color. It is rather warm and tender than rich and shiny. Deeper tones are obtained by irradiation or heating of a natural gem (these are treated stones), but if it is to be kept in the sun, it will lose its saturation and return to its pale color or completely discolor. If you hold a real topaz in your hand, it will not heat up, but will remain slightly cool. The natural mineral has a very smooth surface and the smallest inclusions or defects in the structure. If you rub a real gem with wool, it will attract dust and the smallest hairs. /Translated from Russian/

Even if it's glass, it looks adorable! I think it's more beautiful than Swarovski cristal. I'm waiting for my silver (probably they mean white but I don't know) topaz that I purchased from a local store.

Real topaz will scratch glass and if you rub it with woollen cloth it will attract hair.

Even if it's lab grown , the cost could be hundreds of dollars for a topaz of that clarity and size.

Sinthethic topaz most likely. It's impossible to get a real topaz for that amount and specially that size.

There is an American ebay store called Design Associates. I have 13 of their gems and tested 10 of them with my limited equipment since I am a scientist. RI, density and on-magnification tests just came positive for the materials they claim to be. I recomend them

I just started buying some stones myself..could even be from the same seller as you purchased from. And many more. And for the prices as you mentioned I can't complain either. :) I just love the look of the stones and all the amazing cuts and colors. So I started a gemstone collection for myself. But as you mentioned as well. Hard to really know what's what. Without paying for a gem tester. Which I learned is hundreds of dollars. So not sure if that's a route I'd like to go right now. And some of my stones also came with certs like yours. If you happen to learn any thing about the company that certifys the stones please share. I'm also going to look into it. But interested to hear what you find out. The stone looks amazing and they are just so cool to hold and look at. I hope we are not getting glass stones. But I was curious. Do you know if the stones are glass would they scratch say a mirror? Or do only real stones scratch? Great post and thanks for sharing what you got.

The way I look at it is if it is really too good to be true, it is. If they are this cheap they are most likely low quality or glass. If making cheap home made jewelry they are pretty, but if looking for something valuable, this is not the route to go. The certificates are most likely fakes.

The gemstones authentication test cost only from 10-15$ anywhere around the globe. And never let the gemstone in the lab always insist to get the test done in front of you. Hardly few minutes it takes. My grand uncle used to have gemstones mines contract's. The Dutch British American and French used to visit him. I learned lot of things from him He passed away many years back.

Let's see, you have purchased a museum quality, $10,000+ pink topaz for less than $8, what could possibly be wrong with that... hmmm. From the size, there can be only one of two possible answers, glass or plastic. Heat a needle red hot and touch it, plastic will smell/penetrate. For glass you'd need a microscope to detect tiny bubbles.
@FuturesPast1
@FuturesPast1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, of course I did not think I was going to get a museum quality $10,000 pink topaz. Who would be stupid enough to think they would give you a genuine pink topaz for that price? I was being passive aggressive when I was saying that is what I may have gotten. I have a dark sense of humor most people don't get. If it is a genuine stone, the most it could be is a heat treated quartz, but my guess is most like likely faceted, colored glass. It is not even worth me doing a needle test. $5 bucks says it's probably glass.

Once again thank you very much. I am not really into buying gems anymore believe it or not. Now I prefer used antique jewelry the most because I love the history behind the items and that they were once loved. I like the ones that were not mass produced like today. I stopped buying gems years ago after I made this video because I am not an expert. However, it was fun just buying those cheap gems just to see what would arrive and even if they are just glass I am still grateful.

I learned lot of things. At that time no mobiles no internet nothing. Life was simple and pure. Less frauds and cheating. Now it's terrible. Can you send me some pictures of what type of articles you doing. And if you ever need a semi precious stone for your self or even precious one for your self let me know I will send you one ( free of cost) as a token of respect and gratitude. And I mean it. To check the authenticity of the stones ,You can just weigh your stone on the gemstone weighing scale and then verify the weight on this website which gives the actual weights of stones basis their sizes. I think this is a fake one. The price at which u mentioned buying definitely does not get u a real topaz. Having said that you have paid money for labour on cutting the synthetic stone.

I've watched some of your videos. I don't know what modern glass has air bubbles as you describe and don't think thats a good measure to confirm or deny what it is. There is some really pretty 'quartz' glass out there for cheap, it can come colored and refracts light better than this low quality stuff. In ancient cultures, man-made colored glass was very valuable. Spend maybe 3-4x the $ vs one of these fakes and you can get something pretty nice. (Murano glass, good dichroic faceted glass, etc.)

Siraj Ahmad inclusions are imperfections inside the stone. Gemstones and minerals will have very specific inclusions, so I would probably look them up and study them before trying to identify a stone.

goldleaf3333 basically topas have 8 hardness it doesn’t allow to scratch on it due to its tough hardness 8 out of 10 and secondly topas comes in good condition i mean if you cut it properly there will be no inclusion in it

I’m not sure why are people saying that it’s fake and real one costs hundreds of thousands dollars. Here in India, Topaz is used as a substitute for Sapphire for astrological purposes and its really cheap. Ofcourse this one is heat treated as mentioned in the certificate.
