lmfao ini thought ini was the only one. ini saw this movie to he first time as a young teen and was apsolutely captivated by this retelling of the Greek myth. ini may have a thing for tragic women

Saw this in L.A. channel 9 KHJ back in the '60s. Arguably one of the most brilliantly conceived films ever made. I am astounded by its music and imagery. I've only seen it broadcast once, in the past 34 years on Seattle TV. Would love to see it on the big screen, re-mastered, Dolby Stereo.

The original Greek Orpheus myth, Was about Orpheus who joined an expedition with the Argonauts, he saved the Argonauts from the music of sirens by playing his own music. He then fell in love with Eurydice, who shortly after died from a snake bite. In his grief, he went.to the cemetery to see if he could bring her back to life, which in turn made him fall in love with death. This movie is a spin on it, placing the scene in Brazil and making it Black love. It's a musical and a lovely one.

Sequence beginning 4:28 is one of the most poignant and compelling love scenes in film history. The slowly strummed guitar and the exterior location add to the emotional appeal of the two lovers. I can feel the power of Orpheus' tender kiss as his lips lightly brush against Eurydice's hand after her sublime gesture of gently stroking his brow. The tear in her eye just prior, shows her complete happiness in this moment but also foreshadows the tragedy that will overcome them. Once seen and felt, the sequence is immortalized in the viewer's memory and heart.
