Individuals were prohibited from cultivating Red Sandalwood until 2002. Today, it is allowed to grow trees, but it is not permitted to harvest and sell its wood. As per these rules sandalwood trees grown on any patta land will be property of pattadar. However the owner of sandalwood trees has to sell his trees to Government only. For this purpose he shall apply to District Forest Officer in Form-I appended to these Rules with list of trees and necessary documents. So think before investing in it.

Price depend on demand and supply. Since sandalwood is prohibited its expensive now but when many ppl start to plant it , the price will be very low .. Forget 8-25 crores per Acres ... 1 karod mile to oh bhi jyada hola .. Its hard to sell at 200 per kg..

Correction plz :- Acre is not variable. It's constant in world. Bighaa and other regional measurements are variable.

Correction: In India people don't measure their lands in acres but Bighas, and as you said bigha varies so when Bigha is different in different locations, therefore where the bigha is smaller, they will have to provide more no. of bighas for the job.

Isn't Sandalwood tree selling banned in India by law? 🙄 I heard that even if you grow sandalwood. You can't sell them. You can only sell to Govt that is also if authorized by Forestry. Hi, 1. Anyone can do farming of sandalwood but before 2017 it was banned 2. You don't need authorisation, you just need to inform the government 3. You can sell it to anyone
