Glad to see some Oric content from you, planning to release the graphics or use it in a demo maybe?

not sure if I can release it in a compo since I have showed it here. But if anyone :P is up for making a demo with room for it I can off course release it like that :)

nice. Sounds like a great setup. From what I understand those disc drives was far between.

thanx. I think it turned out okay as well. it was a lot of work and not sure I would repeat it. hehe. I do prefer painting with mouse.

@proteque the oric did have a light pen, and oricutron can emulate it with a mouse. I don't know if there are any paint apps that use it. These days, most people just convert gfx to the oric...

Hard to match. Maybe the c16 comes close. But no, not really.

I had many computers throughout the 80's (I've even forgotten some only to be reminded when I saw one in a video lol) consistently looking for a system that would do everything I wanted. Most were awful, but some I have a soft spot for and that includes the Atmos, but mostly for the looks. Nice compact design with a real keyboard on it, a decent BASIC for those quick and dirty programs and although it had an internal speaker it was reasonable unlike most systems with one. I got one far too late in its life and that meant I had already used several more powerful systems (the 80's was an awesome time for computing choice) so I didn't get any kind of attachment to the system.

I have no nostalgia for it neither. It is mostly a new fascination (well almost 20 years now). I have started to get the fascination for the zx spectrum as well. The thing is, neither of them crossed my path at all back in the days. Everyone had the VIC and later the C64 around here. I don't know any Norwegians that used to have an Oric and only know a few that has told me in adult life that they used to have a zx. Such a cool era for home computing! Thank you for sharing your experience with it.

@@proteque I was never a fan of the ZX Spectrum, although I did own one for a while, but that was only to play a select few games that despite the hardware were great. The Vic 20 I skipped at the time (got one many years later, just as a curio) as I thought the memory was exceptionally poor (3.5K available) and although RAM upgrades were available I had already had that RAM issue with the ZX81 (1K and 16K RAM pack) that I didn't want to deal with it. C64 on the other hand had a lot of great software, but by this time I was programming in assembly/MC and I didn't like the CPU (6502/6510 @ 1MHz same as the Atmos) and at that speed I thought it was too slow. Maybe I was too picky lol
@proteque

@@daishi5571 I agree. The VIC has never catched my interest even up to this day. what year was this btw? if it was slow or you being just picky all comes down to what other choices was out there.

@@proteque Got my first computer in 1981 a Sinclair ZX81 in Kit form (I was 10, I built it myself and I'm from the UK so the ZX makes sense) and I loved it for about 5 minutes. Before I even got it I had already got hold of the manual and learnt BASIC, but BASIC and 1KB RAM do not go well together. I had no games, no cassette drive and no money for the 16KB RAM pack so I ended up just writing short routines. Almost a month later when I got the 16KB upgrade I loved it again for about 30 minutes when my first big program ran into the wall of memory and a lack of speed (I still didn't have a cassette drive to save my programs for about another 2 months) I was stuck with it for a while (a serious lack of funds). Worst machine I ever owned, it had so many issues with just about everything from the connectors (all of them) the keyboard (I will use that term loosely) and the TV output quality, but it did set me on the road for programming. I then in 1982 I got a Sord CGL M5, an interesting system going by the specs and the couple of games I got with it, but that was the problem, I couldn't find anything for that system beyond what I had so I got rid of that. Then from 1983 I had several systems in a row (can't remember what order) Aquarius, NewBrain, Jupiter Ace, Acorn Atom (pretty much all these sucked so only kept them a few weeks each) then in 1984 I got a Dragon 32 which I kept until 87 (not a great overall system with poor graphics and sound but it was incredibly well built with a good BASIC built in) I learnt several languages including Machine code then Assembly and wrote a massive amount of code. Of all the 8 bit CPU's I used the 6809 was by far the best. At 1MHz not the fastest, but I was able to write code that would execute far faster than a 6502/6510 at 1MHz used in the C64 (I think I got one in 1985) which had the similar (a bit more advanced) 6510 CPU at 1MHz (not as fast as a Acorn BBC which is @ 2MHz which I got in 86 maybe 87) and could keep up with the 3.5 MHz Z80 used in the ZX Spectrum (which I got before the BBC in 1986) I probably got the Vic 20 in late 88 maybe 89, it was a bit after I got my Amiga A500 (1988) so everything prior to that got blown away. Sorry for the long reply but I thought I should give you a taste (this is most not all of that period) of what systems I had so you could establish what I was comparing with. Languages Multiple types of BASIC, Forth, Z80, 6502/6510, 6800, 6809, 68000, x86, C across those systems

My uncle gave me his that he brought from the UK. It had a problem where slowly all the keys stopped being recognized. I had my dad open it up and take a look, but him being an electrical engineer, couldn't figure out what the issue was with the keyboard keys slowly stopping working.

What part of the world was this? Was a part where the Atmos was rare? My guess is that the membrane had corrotion on traces or some problem like that? or did the atmos have individual switches?

A great list of some very nice looking computers there. I do think the Atmos is up there though, and maybe even the best looking. But as you said. It is just a matter of taste!
