preferred paper: washi paper or mulberry paper treated with mc glue or vinylic glue before folding

This is really nice and sturdy gnome! Would you please confirm the marks on 11:48 ? Does this mean that the bottom flap is a bit smaller, and the area on top is a bit larger?

Exactly, it can also be exactly equal, but it's "safer" doing it as you said, if the bottom part is slightly smaller it always works
