I am curious as to your thoughts on the third reader. I know Sherrie at Mom Delights doesn’t do that reader. Have you done it? How have you and your boys liked it?

I haven't used it with my boys yet. I've only used the Revised third reader but they don't perfectly track with each other. I see what Sherrie means by there being a jump between the second and third readers. I love the reader itself. My estimation is that it's a sixth grade level and up so if you have a reader who finishes the second reader well before then you may want to go to the revised third reader. I'd say the Original Third Reader is more on par with the Revised Fourth Reader. I hope that helps!

This was fantastic! Thank you! I am so glad I found your channel and Etsy shop. I have the older McGuffey’s and was looking for something just like this to go with the books. Thank you again! ❤

Loving your videos and your Etsy store, how helpful! I am trying to place my 7 3/4 year old. I gave her the second reader and had her read the 16th lesson and she only missed 3 words and could answer all questions I asked her. Do you have any suggestions on where to place her? Thank you!
@landofkakiakahomeschool
@landofkakiakahomeschool 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I would probably keep her in the second reader. If you feel she has mastered a lesson just move on to the next one the next day and then when it hits a place where you find her instructional level she'll naturally slow down. It's common for me to have my 8 year old read a lesson for multiple days until I consider it mastered. I hope that helps.

Love! We are using revised only but now I’m thinking of adding third original?? My oldest is almost thru fourth revised. Perhaps a video on third pretty please?

Also , side note ! I bought your weekly paragraphs but am trying to figure out how to incorporate that with oldest just for refresher? Did you ever use the Writing Course program by Lybrandt?

@@boxlove7283 I bought the book version which I think is a transcript of something if I remember correctly. I didn't buy his actual course. I wanted something more specific and I got some feedback from someone who did purchase it and didn't recommend it. How old is your oldest? I believe I did the paragraph writing with my oldest when he was 10. He really did need some work on his writing and I liked paragraphs and sentences, not too overwhelming. If you are going to do it I recommend pausing other writing and letting them really focus on it.

I found the Evan moor writing book on eBay. Haven’t used either yet. I’m really on the Mcguffeys bandwagon lol. Oh for math with my 12 year old we are trying learn math fast. So far it’s all review but has really good tricks and explains it well for independent learning.

I’m trying to figure out if this is a resource I want to invest in. My 10 year old is experiencing his first year home and it’s been a big adjustment going from the way he learned and was taught in public school and using Charlotte Mason’s methods for language arts. It’s been rough and I do not feel equipped to fill in all his gaps. Conversely, my 6 year old starting with her first formal year is doing fantastic. How long would you say this should take a day and is it 4 or 5 days a week? I’d like for it to be kept under 30 min a day.
@landofkakiakahomeschool
@landofkakiakahomeschool 6 ай бұрын
In my opinion you can set your own schedule (days a week/minutes per day) however you feel best serves your homeschool. This is going to vary on the level your child is working at and if you decide to do each component each day. For a 10 year old I'd probably be spending more than 30 minutes a day on language arts in reality but I like to do the reading, oral narration, comprehension questions, grammar or copywork, and spelling components each day, with feedback from me. If you were to play with those components within your week I'm sure you could get it to 30 minutes. Also, there is always an adjustment period when starting something new and everyone gets faster and better after they've learned the ropes.

@@landofkakiakahomeschool currently he’s doing oral and written narration multiple times a day in other subjects. I really don’t want to spend more than 20-30 min on LA, I think that would be way too much writing and composition for him. He has lower attention span and fatigues easily when writing.

When would you start a child in pictorial primer.
@landofkakiakahomeschool
@landofkakiakahomeschool 5 ай бұрын
I actually don't love the pictorial primer. I start my kids with just learning the abc's and all their sounds. Once those are mastered (it took my four year old only a few months of drill and playing games with flashcards) I do Teach Your Child to Read in 100 easy lessons, at least the first half of the book, before moving into the Primer.
