On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Cleveland OH on 5-29-22.
We're looking at a 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport SS 2 Door Convertible in Ember Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 409 CI V8 engine with 425 HP, and has a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Rick Wojtko. Rick’s had this car since new. He shares when he was 17 this car was the hottest car on the road with 425 HP and they made songs about it “She’s real fine my 409” and it was like living a dream.
This car will be shared at Glynn Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC at 600 Columbus Pkwy, Opelika, AL
ENJOY!

@@bdpopeye Yes, and all the dealership cared about back then was branding it with their logo on the backside like cattle. Today if that car appeared on their lot they'd treat it like gold. But that car would not be found parked for 5 minutes on their unworthy lot today. Most people were ignorant to the car's potential value back in 1964, but not all. There were a few car guys who knew right away.

My grandfather had a black hard top 62 Impala and my father had a 64 red with white hardtop. I practically lived in those cars. Nice video! Brought back a lot of memories. When I came home in 1974 from my tour of duty in the USMC, I needed a car. A local dealer [who had died in 1966] wife had died and there was an estate sale. In the estate was included his personal 1963 Impala SS convertible. I went to the auction with all my gusto to buy that car. It was white, with a tan top and interior and a 4-gear. It had A/C, so I figured it was a small block. Long story short, I wound up with the car. It had less than 20K on the clock and was a 425HP 409 car. The original owner owned a big Chevrolet dealer. When the beast arrived, he had his guys in the shop set about the engine brackets for A/C compressor by Frigidaire, as well as all the other components. A/C was available as a 409 option, just not for the 425HP. A one of none A/C equipped 425/409 was born in his dealership. The car had power windows, power steering and manual brakes. Wish I'd kept that one...

I was 13 in 1964, and my Dad bought a ‘64 Impala 2dr HT in Daytona blue. He was originally getting a 283 with a 3speed stick on the column but was too tall and shifting to 3rd gear hit his knee. So the salesman suggested the 4spd on the floor but it needed the 327 250hp. I remember that it cost a little over $2800, brand new. To a 13 y/o kid, that was a big deal. I was tall at 16 and would occasionally sneak it out and do one wheel peels popping the clutch! He kept it for over 10 years before selling it, mostly rusted as we lived in NY, to the neighbor kid as a project car. Good memories.

@@loucostabile Lou, since he purchased it new at 17 yrs old using his own money, I’m surprised you: 1. Never asked him how much he paid for it, and 2. How, at 17, he could afford it in the first place! That car had to be close to, if not over $4000 sticker price. That’s over $38,000 in today’s money according to an inflation calculator. He wouldn’t have hid that information and it would have been interesting to know.

Thank you for making my evening. This brought back so many memories. I had a 2 door hardtop SS with 409 - 340 hp. I could get rubber in all 4 gears . That and the dual glass packs got me in a little trouble with the local PD. Sure which I had it now. Glad you were able to keep yours. Beautiful car.

The glory days for GM cars. I was in awe at 16 when a guy in our small town bought a new 64 impala SS red with a 327 4 speed. Later a friend bought a used 63 impala 327 300 hp. That car would go. This 409 425 is very impressive. I was told the 348 and 409 were poor engines??

That car is so familiar to me because my Dad bought a used ermine white two door Impala with the 327 from a Denver car dealership in 1966. It was our family car for many years and the car I drove around the neighborhood while under age with a friend on a Thursday night while Mom and Dad was at King Soopers shopping for next week's groceries. We took that car on our 1968 California vacation from Colorado, in that year I turned twelve years old. In later summers I washed, polished and waxed it for Mom and Dad.

That’s a beautiful car. He knew exactly what to order. I had a 64 Impala convertible for awhile. It was white with a black top and black interior. I found it in the want ads for $250.00. The top was in tatters but I worked at a car lot. My boss loved convertibles and he had a car collection so he ran it through like it was one of his. I got a new top with a glass rear window for $180.00. I was in it for $430.00, a good deal even in 1977 when I bought it. My plan was to put a 409 in it with a Muncie four speed and paint it red but I never got enough money to get that done. I ended up driving it until 1988 and I had to let it go 😢 because I was in debt to the IRS. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from that. I have to admit that I have mixed feelings when I see one now. I can appreciate it but I get a little twinge of jealousy. I hope someday I can replace it but it won’t be likely to fall into my hands for $430.00.

I had a 64 SS Impala when I was young it was a 327, 4 speed with factory tach. I painted it black with gold on the side where the hollow part of the body is It was a stunning car with black interior. I named it "Texas Tea" on the trunk lid. I had that car quite a few years till it got rear ended by a semi and the insurance would not give me even a 1/3 of what I thought it was worth at the time, which was in about 1984. I think I got less than 2k for it. If I knew what I know now I would have kept it and repaired it.
