On "My Car Story" we're in Scottsdale AZ at The Rock & Roll McDonalds on 2-3-24.
We're looking at a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra in Gold Metallic Paint. The car comes with the 429 CI Cobra Jet V8 engine and a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Ric Heath. Rick’s has this car since new. He shares not everything has been easy keeping this car, however he restored it and he’s a great Caretaker. This car looks showroom new.

Ok crap love it. Had a 1970 Torino GT, 429 SCJ, shaker, tach, 4 speed, bench seat so my gal could sit by me. Laser stripe. But so similar. And again, Lou- great find, just amazes me 50 year + ownership.

My, oh, my! What do we have here? You just don't see Torinos on the road that often and of that time period. This is a STUNNING car. It is odd that there is a bench seat with a manual - the interior fabric says 1970's for sure! As always you just manage to cross all time periods and feature the widest range of cars in your automotive history video museum. Your efforts are always appreciated!

My maternal Grandma had a four door in the light mint-ish pastel green. When I was about 12 in 1978 or so, we went to my Uncle's wedding, and at the reception, I went outside to check out someone's car. While I was out there, one of the people who lived in the house next to the reception place came out and got into a Sportsroof Torino like this, and fired it up and drove off down the road. It had mag wheels and a loud exhaust, and captured my heart! And the song, Mr. Blue Sky, by Electric Light Orchestra was new or recent at the time, and stuck in my head, and ever since, has always reminded me of that Torino!!!

As a college student, Ford hired me as summer help at the Ford Assembly Plant on Baumhart Rd. in Lorain, Ohio. I put the front bumpers on Torinos and Montegos during my day shift. They built so many cars during the 8 hours that they would accumulate outside the plant and then have to moved to the railroad yard. We got to work overtime jumping in the cars and driving them - I remember lighting up a few of the 429's. What a blast!

Hi Lou, this car always brings back great memories for me. my father bought a 1970 Torino GT brand new back in 1970 not a cobra. it was midnite blue. no options no power steering no power brakes. no A/C. 302 engine Goodyear polyglass wide tires with 2 piece deep dish wheel covers. standard blue vinyl interior. he only kept it about a year because it was not a car for a family of 7. I of course was too young to drive it but my bro was 18 and he got to drive it. I did wash it alot Lou. thanks Lou 👍

My middle brother and I grew up with a 1970 Torino 4 door of course family truckster. Dad bought it new, and it had the covered headlights (cool). Also had the 351 Cleveland (2 barrel only), but it was still decent for back in the day when I turned 16 in 79. Got 2 speeding tickets within 2 weeks of driving it!!❤😂

Great story when I graduated from high school in 1968 I had a friend in school that bought one of these cars shortly after graduating. It was a very unique car unfortunately it was one that wasn’t very strong, but it looked and sounded terrific.

Nice to see a Torino Cobra without the GT SportsRoof, those are pretty rare, since most of the Cobras came with the GT SportsRoof. I believe the last year for the Cobra was 1972 due to obvious reasons (Decline in Muscle Car Sales due to rising insurance costs, the switch from SAE Gross to SAE Net, the customer switch to fuel-efficient compact-sized to mid-sized cars/coupes/station wagons/sedans, and most importantly, the '73 Oil Embargo).

All Cobras in 1970 were Sportsroofs. There are some formal roofs floating around that are clones. Last year for the Cobra was 1971. In 1972, the performance version of this car was the Gran Torino Sport, which had an optional non-CJ 429, carrying over into 1973. This car IS a Sportsroof.

I owned a 70 Fairlane with the 302 which was the same body style as the Torino but the striped down bare bones version. My favorite year for the Torino, however, I miss the sequential turn signal lights that didn’t come on the Cobra!

My 70 was a weird green color with a 351 Cleveland. Looked just like this but with a regular hood. The back was the same as this . Paid 900 in Gulfport Mississippi in 1980. You could camp in the trunk it was so big.

Threw a weird set of events I got the same car and color. Mine was a 351 cu in GT with hide away head lights. The car I believe was car of the year - 1970. It was just frog hair fine 😊😊

Beautiful car Lou, you don't see many Torinos at the car shows that I go to in Oklahoma and Texas. Not sure why. I always loved that body style myself. Don't think that I have ever seen one that color combo before. Was that just a regular Cobra Jet or a Super Cobra Jet engine?

@@loucostabile The VIN tag shows this as a "N" code 429 ThunderJet, so it was not the slightly more powerful CobraJet. The reality was the smaller ports of these D0VE casting heads worked better in the midrange than the D0OE CJ's, which could pull these heavier cars around better. This engine in the vid has been rebuilt and cammed, so who knows what's in there now.

Great car! Rick seems like a cool guy, sort of Clint Eastwoodish. I am confused about the tach? When he bought the car, it did not have one and he got a correct version for this car later on, is that what I understood as correct? Just interested because I never saw a version like that. Thanks! That hose is for when it rains, the water will be caught at the bottom of the shaker hood scoop and then like a gutter goes out that dangling hose past the engine to the ground below so the engine doesn't get wet.

I got into a chat argument about this car Australian Ford made a car that looks very similar to this and a lot of people online said the same thing as I did but some of the Aussies said that the Australian version had no influence from the “American Ford Torino” in no shape or form I strongly disagree I have worked on Fords my whole adult life and I’ve never heard of Australian Ford or as I was informed of British Ford my argument was if they’re not Fords or influenced by then why do they use Ford”s name Others tried to tell me that the 351C was an Australian motor that’s when I had heard enough 😂

The trivia tidbit is, at the angle at 4:30, the smooth area forward of the oil cap on the valve cover is OEM 429 Ford. 428 OEM covers are finned in that spot. There are other clues but that is the quickie.
