Yeah I'm definitely a "Pfft just whack it together and find out" kind of modder. I try to keep all my costs for parts, tools and paints SUPER low, so if it doesn't work, no great loss, but if it turns out ok, bonus!

8BitDo made the mod available again for PS1 Controllers, but not for the Dualshock version, just the regular old PS1 controller without joysticks

​@@SheikahchuYeah, I saw that and bought one to try out last week. I fitted it into a PS1 controller today, and it works great. Most PS1 games don't even need the analog sticks anyway, so the mod kit is perfect for my needs. I now plan to buy another three of them, so I have a set of four controllers for my Batocera console. I'm still tempted to try to do this mod to my grey Dualshock though, just for the fun of tinkering with it.

I'm not sure if these controllers work with the original ps2 but I assume they do, and that's roughly the same as a dualshock 1 so yeah I guess you could build a wireless dualshock 1. I haven't got a spare dualshock 1 at the moment, I did have one but I modded it to usb. Fyi that video is on my channel too.

Tbh though with Chinese bootlegs like these, you're very likely going to end up with a set similar to this double pack by searching "Wireless PS2 Controller". I had to hack away at the inside anyway so even if they are slightly different I'd imagine it would be the same amount of effort.

Sure thing, FYI this drone battery came with a proprietary connector not a standard connector that most rechargeable cells have, so I soldered on the one from the large battery in the video. What about the charging port used. I tried using the battery with a charging port but not getting much results. You said in the video that it was a power regulator, but i’m having trouble finding it. Do you know what the part is specifically called?

I use the tiny Adafruit lipo chargers, I've used them before on a couple of raspberry pi projects, they're super small and reliable I had a search about and I couldn't find and USB-C ones, they're constantly out of stock, here's a link to a micro USB one that I've found on amazon though.

This is EXACTLY what I was aiming for: Inspiration. Trust me you CAN do this (if I can, anyone can), you just need a little patience and to accept that things might not work the way you'd like first time. I believe in you.

Possibly, although an easier aproach is probably to use the innards of a dualshock 3 PS3 controller as the shells are practically the same size. I imagine it would only take a small amount of modification of the rear half to accommodate the battery and the L2/R2 buttons as well as the charging port. Also the dualshock 3 is already bluetooth compatable. If it was me that's where I would start.

I'm also using cheap disposable tools from the Poundshop. If you browse Ebay you can find all the components you need cheap too. All you need is a little patience, trust me you can do this.

What kind of converters do you mean? Also sorry, I do the occasional mod for my mates but I dont sell the stuff I make. I started this channel to show you can make awesome controller mods, micro consoles, and Raspberry Pi stuff with no training, and for a low budget. I use super cheap Chinese components and hand tools from the poundshop. Trust me if I can do this, anybody can. You dont need a workshop or 3D printers, all you need is a little patience. I also recently took apart my controller to clean it because it was very old and put it back together and now the controller isn't working I plug it in and now it considers all my inputs as ON is that like a ground issue or something?

@@jdestroyer9721 This is purely a guess but assuming this is an original Sony DualShock 2, the first thing I would check is the little where the button membrane (the thin plastic sheet with the contacts on it) connects to the pcb. Inside the bottom half of the controller shell there is a small foam pad, its job is to press down where the membrane ribbon touches the copper traces on the pcb, the are couple of tiny posts to keep the membrane in place while its put together. My guess is that the membrane has shifted when you put the controller back together. Make sure the contacts are clean and that the foam pad is back in if you took it out. Just a guess but I wish you luck.

It's hit and miss really, these ones don't but for 6 quid each I didn't expect them to. You're totally right though, some of the missions in GTA SA can be a total nightmare without, but for everything else it works great. The biggest incentive for me to make this was for parents like me. Little children today didn't grow up in a time of wires trailing across the front room, everything was wireless long before they were born. The amount of times I've had a console go flying because she runs through the cable on the carpet I've lost count. Eventually got fed up and decided to build this. Certainly solved that issue. The bootleg controller doesn't have the analog pressure sensitive buttons and triggers. Other than that it feels the same to me. There are some games that really need those analog buttons though so I'd check first, but if you can live without it and have spare original dualshock 2s as backups then go for it.

I bet with a little bit of practice and a little bit of patience you can totally make this. I have no engineering or electronics qualifications, I'm just figuring it out as I go along. Plus I use the cheapest hand tools I can find. Trust me you can do it.

All bootlegs are slightly different, and I made this ages ago so a detailed set of instructions would be tricky because yours will probably be different. However what you basically need to do is look at the bootleg pcb and find a pair of solder pads on the left and right side with a + and - symbol on them, they will be for the motors. as far as the switch goes, make sure the pad has a power off timer and 'auto on' function, so basically if it is left switched on, will it turn itself off after a few minutes without pressing anything, then will it turn itself on with a press of a button? If it does then de-solder and remove the power switch and the bridge the solder points of the switch so it is always on. Hope that helps.

As long as you can make sure the contact pads are in the right spot then it should work. Remember if you have to cut away plastic to make something fit, make sure there is enough pressure behind the PCB (like what I did with the pencil eraser) so that the buttons aren't mushy or super loose. It's absolutely fine, but remember there are so many different types of third party controllers out there it's always a gamble. The only feature this one doesn't have is pressure sensitive buttons so for example, a couple of the missions in GTA SA can be a bit tricky because you can't gently press the accelerator, but other than that you'd never know it wasn't legit.

Yeah, this is the only video for the controller, the receiver is the 2nd video. Basically what I did was remove the battery terminals from the bootleg pcb and soldered in an Adafruit USB battery charger, then I took a drone battery and changed the plug on the end to one that would fit the charger. Then squished it all inside. It might look complicated but it's literally 3 bits wired together with 4 short wires. I like to keep things as simple as possible.

Your English is fine :) The reason I didn't make a full process video is because I'm using my phone camera and I can't film the whole process, it also takes a couple of days as I'm making it on my kitchen table in little stages also I'm totally figuring it out as I go. However the biggest reason I cant give an exact process and step by step instructions is because there are many different bootleg controllers so they might not all fit in the dualshock shell the exactly the same way. If you are going to build this I can send you a basic wiring diagram, no problem.

It's not bluetooth, the inside PCB has been swapped out for a cheap Chinese RF bootleg. All I did was add a battery, USB C charger. The rest is an original dualshock 2.

Sorry I built that controller years ago, even if I could remember, I doubt the exact bootleg controller I bought is still available, those things are always changing. Although if you scan the comments I think a few years back I made a quick sketch of the circuit I built.

To be honest it's minimal. I'm also running this Playstation 2 through an HDMI converter and a capture device and I'm still able to play things like Half Life and Timesplitters with no issues. I mean I still die a lot, but it's not the lag, it's cos I'm rubbish.

I didn't think to film the 360 controller mod, It was a slightly different thing than I usually build. Basically I have a nephew with autism who was around 2 years old at the time. He used to scream for his Dad's Xbox One controller, so I took apart 3 broken 360 controllers, disconnected the Bluetooth and wired the vibration motors to the triggers, made the Xbox logo light up like the XBone one. I also swapped the sticks for ones that wouldn't shred when he bit them, and different colour buttons and triggers as a sensory thing. That way he could sit with his controller and he dad could play FIFA.

That is a piece of pencil eraser, like the ones used at school. I had it left over from my Sega Megadrive project, it's easy to cut to the right shape and its non-conductable, just what I needed.

This wasnt a six axis controller, this wasn't for the PS3, this was a way for me to play my pink PS2 with my Pink PS2 controller without a child (born long after wired controllers ceased to exist) running across my front room and whipping the console off the TV unit.
