The sound quality is what does it for me. You could have incredibly talented musicians re-record all these songs today and it just wouldn’t have the same impact. There’s a presence in every instrument and voice in these old recordings that can’t be replicated.

Carol Shepherd I love this music too. This is from a time o struggle and pain. There were no luxuries or modern conveniences. But what this music teaches us is an unabashed trust in the Lord. Jesus was more real to them than to most folks. My mother taught me to love this music. One time I called her and she was listening to Johnny Cash and I was shocked. I said what are you listening to??? I said mom you like hillbilly music? I was shocked because we are black people! And my mother explained to me that in Alabama where she was born and raised (19280) everybody listed to this kind of music. When the family sat and listened to the radio this is what they heard and they loved it. She even told me how once in a while some hillbillies came down from the hills to get some prayer for a healing. When the healing took place they would dance for joy all over the place. So I miss these dear brothers and everyone else like them. They always brought me closer to God. I am afraid this generation may never know what it is like to have nothing but Jesus. God bless you sister, stay safe out there.

Just as far as I can remember She'll remain the rose of my heart Mom took sick along in December February brought us broken hearts The reason we've not called the family reunion We knew that she wouldn't be there But since we've thought it all over, mama We know that your spirit is there No, no, I can't forget the hours You're the onliest one, mom And sweeter than the flowers No, no, there's no need to bother To speak of you now would only hurt father It looks so good to see us together But I had to look after dad Oh mama, when I passed by your coffin I didn't want to remember you dead They all gathered 'round, I stared at their faces All heads were bowed mighty low But that was one time we all had to face it It hurt us so bad you know No, no, I can't forget the hours You're the onliest one, mom And sweeter than the flowers No, no, there's no need to bother To speak of you now would only hurt father Oh, no, momma, we'll never forget you And someday we'll meet you up there

People really cared for their relatives and friends back then, and it was great. The U S govt took that away from us, while they were making themselves millions, or billions. I still miss my Mom and Dad, who gave me a great deal of wisdom back then. Now it seems to be over thanks to both parties. What a waste.

Shackles and Chains On a long lonesome journey I'm going Oh darling, and please don't you cry Though in shackles and chains they will take me In prison to stay till I die And at night through the bars, I gaze at the stars And I long for your kisses in vain A piece of stone I will use for my pillow While I'm sleeping in shackles and chains Put your arms through these bars once, my darlin' Let me kiss those sweet lips that I love best In heartache, you're my consolation In sorrow, my haven of rest And at night through the bars, I will gaze at the stars The plans that we made were in vain A piece of stone I will use as my pillow While I'm sleeping in shackles and chains
