Hi Dave, Thanks for all of the informative videos. Having watched quite a number of videos including your two reviews of the Orion Plasma Pulse Welders, I decided to purchase a 100C as a Birthday gift for my jewellery designer/maker partner. Unfortunately, I'm having a massive amount of trouble finding the correct connections from a standard Argon two gauge regulator (SGS supplier) to the Sunstone supplied 1/4" OD plastic gas feed pipe. I've tried several local welding supplier outfits in Huddersfield but still nothing. Could you let me know where you purchased the connector fitting from the 3/8" regulator output to the Orion provided pipe? Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken, I simply went to my local welding supplier (where I got the argon) and simply said I wanted a regulator with a gauge and adaptor to a 3mm inside diameter (or whatever it is) hose. They gave me the tank and all the appropriate bits. In my case there is the nut (what attaches onto the gauge) and inside the nut is a separate "barbed" hose connector. available in various diameters. Tons on eBay / amazon etc. see link for a pic. Hello, thanks for the videos of the Orion arc welders, they are very informative. I have a few questions, if you wouldn't mind answering. 1) I have been looking at the ORION mPulse 30 Arc Jewellery Welder with Swingarm Microscope. I mainly want to use for jump rings on 9mm lobster clips, hence the microscope. Do you think the microscope is very beneficial over the other version with the blackout screen. When I am usually closing up the tiny jump rings, I usually have a 7x + in my eye so I can see the tiny rings! I suppose I am asking, is the extra £500 quid spend worth it, in your opinion or could you use an eye glass while viewing through a blackout screen. 2) There maybe the odd occasion when I might weld/solder a charm or disc to a swivel cufflink fitting. Would the mPulse 30 arc welder be MAN or woman enough for that sort of job. 3) I looked at the argon gas bottles and I noticed that suppliers have mixes of argon. Is it pure argon that you use or a mix. Thanks for answering the questions. Do you have a affiliate code that you get some kick back if I buy ??

Hi, you are always using argon Gas or is it possible to welding Silver and gold without the gas ? Thanks.
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, but it's very inconsistent and hard work. When your gas runs out, you WILL notice the difference. In short, you need the gas. It creates the optimal conditions for the spark. A great video (see link) where a guy shows the difference with a large welder, with and without gas. Dave kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jKmcdK2TycvTpI0.html

In the UK you can buy Orion Welders from HSWalsh. This particular one is the 150s. Currently £5,000. The smaller mPulse (see my video) is just under £2,000 (Dec 2017). see the links. Dave www.hswalsh.com/manufacturers/1310

Which model do you suggest I buy today that will weld 14k, 18k, silver, platinum and do resizing jobs, fix porosity, join parts, replace torch? I would use it once or twice a week on a piece only

I now have a combination. I have the m-pulse as seen in my other video below). But I now have the microscope too. They make a version of the microscope with a cradle to hold the little pulse. so this gives me the vision I need (the microscope is really essential), but I don't need all the fancy settings or additional speed of the computer controlled ones. Start with the pulse, and if you need the microscope add that later. Just my own experiences. hope this helps. Dave kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fMt9l8KLvdG8kWQ.html

What about ventilation? I just got this same unit and there's safety concerns with the Argon & when welding stainless steel (hexavalent chromium is nasty). I know it's a very minor weld, but I thought I'd ask.
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 6 жыл бұрын
As you say,it's only a microscopic weld. So unlikely to be an issue not like using a full size welder on a vehicle or large structure. I weld silver jewellery for hours at an end. I just have a window open next to me to keep the fresh air. If it starts to get a bit fragrant or stuffy, I just take a break and get some air. But thanks for pointing it out. Dave

Hi , quick question, can I weld silver findings to 316 l steel posts of 1 or 2 mm diameter? Thanks
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 5 жыл бұрын
A very specific question. I personally dont work with steel, as Ima jeweller so predominantly use silver and gold. However, you can weld steel and ferrous metals quite happily. I regularly weld 1.5mm silver. If using 2mm steel post you will probably need a couple of hits, around the circumference. Thats how I usually weld anyway. Hope this helps. Dave

Hi would this work for a stainless steel strap to remove scratches dents etc thank you
@CelticDreamsCoUk

Not sure why you feel a welder would remove scratches? surely sanding and polishing is the answer. Dave kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9xmgbF00cDIfok.html

When welding there's a lot of blackness on the metal with argon gas would this eliminate this?
@CelticDreamsCoUk

Not entirely, you still get The "soot", but it's easily wiped off, hence the use of a fibreglass pen. Dave

Which do you prefer,the orion 30 or the 150
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 4 жыл бұрын
I have the 30, which has been upgraded and mounted on the microscope. I feel this gives me a great combination cheaper than the 150. For me this is great. it depends if you need all the added features of the 150 such as the speed , variability, and extra power. Hope this answers your question. Dave

Hi there just want to know How long a battle of argon last
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 7 ай бұрын
I presume you mean a "bottle". difficult to say. If I'm welding a long necklace, where i hit every link with four welds. Then thats pretty much going. to use most of the bottle. Just the usually jump rings and chain repairs, its only a single puff. So will last ages. But repeated welding for hours, will deplete it within a few jobs. It's something which I do have to factor into the price with long chains and necklaces. The argon can easily cost more than the silver. Dave.

Corect, with a tools like this, you need enough work to justify the cost of it. it's great for anyone, but unless you can make full use of it, then it's an expensive luxury. But for a busy repair business, it's worth every penny. Dave
