I have this watch & it’s among my favorites within my modest collection. The biggest improvement was to swap the factory strap for yellow suede. It pops once you go to either a distressed gray leather, yellow suede, or even beige … instead of the rather dull brown leather that it comes with. 👍🏻

My grail watch. Realistically, a real luxury watch won't be within my means in the foreseeable future, but one day I'll own one of these.

I have this watch. Bought it in Boxing Day sales last year. Still absolutely love it. I wanted the black dial and wasnt sold on this dial colour. But the more i looked at it the more I loved it. There is also a slight metallic fleck to the dial under the right light. My wife has the 36mm bronze with green dial.

Great review. I know there are different dial colors, but this flat blue/gray, or almost like a blue pewter seems timeless. I really think anything on a leather strap brings another style which can include dress, sport, and casual. The date hand is awesome. So much butter seeing a full dial without that 3pm date window.

This is my favorite model from Oris next to 1917 Big Crown. The Roberto Clemente model really speaks to me and may need to fork over the dough for one

Not entirely my favorite dial designs of the watches I have, but one of my favorites to wear. Terrific case finish variations. That crown is sweet to operate. Video makes it look a tad bluer than it is, it’s a bit more gray. I think of it as slate blue. The Roberto Clemente looks great.

This watch in this exact color is my grail watch. It’s about the most I could ever spend on wrist candy and not have a heart attack.

I limit myself to one watch a year, so I’ll be picking up the burgundy one next year!

That symmetry argument is the main reason I chose the Khaki King as my daily. Spelled out day AND date complication at the 12 is too cool. My dream would be an Oris style pointer date with a weekday display over the 6 like those old Seikos.

It’s a beautiful watch the only thing that puts me off is the fact that it has “big crown” written on the dial. Ok it’s obvious why it’s called the big crown and yeah, I can see it has a big crown, why does it need to be written on the dial??

I have been looking for a watch with a nice 60's or Vintage feel, that I can also use as a dress watch, and I am starting to think, that Oris might be the brand that can give me that.

This is one of those watches that look so much better in pictures. Usually, it’s the reverse.

The pictures and videos of the BCPD bracelet do not do it justice. Like you, I was not impressed with what I saw online, compared to the leather strap version. Then I went to an AD and handled one in person and my opinion flipped. The bracelet is outstanding. The quality is immediately apparent as you put it on. VERY comfortable and the way the light grey-blue dial and bracelet compliment each other is a little bit magical.

I went into the AD last week looking for the 80th anniversary bronze version. They did have that, along with 9 other variations. This blue one went home on my wrist. All of them looked good, but this was the one. The only one I've seen that I don't like is the special edition with rose gold markers on "oxblood" dial. I would find it hard to read the date on that with the colors too similar.

I like oris, I know they are quite expensive but not compared to other Swiss manufacturers.

Not settling is great advice. I have a watch that I want badly but I missed it and there are other colorways out there but none are the "one" watch. I'm holding out, but it is tempting to get a different one. Good advice. Nice watch.

This will probably be the the office watch I will get for myself once I get a career going in 1-2 year.

I have a 1940’s Swiss Bertmar Pointer date and it also has the day and month, full Calender. I think the pointer dates were a big thing in the 1940’s and partly into the ‘50’s. very classic at 33-34mm which was considered a big men’s watch. The 36mm would be more true to the classics.

Another great video Rob; I completely agree with your design review of this beauty. In fact, I bought this exact watch at Worn and Wound's Windup fair in NYC two years ago from London Jewelers. I've always been a fan of Oris's Big Crown collection and for the longest time was going to buy the black dial version... Until I saw this powder blue/gray looker. Keeps great time and wears like it's not on my wrist (it's so light and thin). My only complaint is the very thing that initially attracted me to it (besides the gorgeous dial and cathedral hands)... The date markers. Why? Quite simply, the printed numbers are way too small for me to read without my glasses! It's still one of my favorites in my collection. Highly recommended. And I almost forgot...for those that think this watch is too dressy looking, the gorgeous dial matches well with your favorite pair of BLUE jeans. It switches well between casual and dressy attire. Harder to do with the other color options IMHO. 😁

If I were to tell my watches and own just one, this would be among my top five, preferably in green or bronze. I think you're right - this is better suited to a strap. The bracelet is too dressy for my tastes. A three-like style bracelet would look better.

I still have my Oris big crown that I bought in 1997. Unfortunately, I no longer can wear it as it looks lost on my 8.5 inch wrist, plus the fact the rice bead strap is too small. Shame, as it is in 96% perfect condition!

Sorry Rob. Could only make it partway through the video. No need to tempt fate ... The Big Crown is just one of the very few watches I like in any colorway, every time I see it I want to sell a car. This slate blue, the Roberto Clemente, the greens etc. Ugh. If there's one watch to just STOP and jump off this hobby in order to move on to other things ... these make a very strong argument for, higher-line Swiss be damned.

Every time I go to Costco I see a two tone one on a bracelet for $879 and think...hmmmmm.
