And to think it is full of huge trucks and cars, as well as the passengers. Speaking from experience. Amazes me every time.

The worst sailing ive had from orkney was on the Pentland ferry. It was so rough we were at about 5 knots at best and having to stop all the time. On that ferry you can see down into the vehicle area. Alarms were going off all over the deck, and vehicles crashing into each other as they slid about. The swell must have caught them off guard as they normally chain down for rough crossings. eventually we came to a complete halt as the deck crews tried to chain down what they could. a nightmare of a crossing that took many hours.

@@MirageEntsUK. Indeed, the siren song of every vehicle ferry, on every route, on every crossing, as it touches the ramp. Must drive the deck crew mad.

@@MirageEntsUK I guess it's fun trying to get your damages covered by the ferry company.

Roch.... much that I like being on Northlink's ferries to Orkney & Shetland that sea crossing would be the exception.

Nearly as rough as the Isle of man steam packet sailings on the old side loaders Ben my chree and lady of mann and the likes. One year trying to come back from dublin to the island, it was so rough that the dockers had to time each car like a rally car to get them up the loading ramp because it was moving in every axis... Up, down, side to side!! NEVER... EVER... AGAIN!!!
