Sorcerer by calling. Hero by accident.

Sorry this took so long everyone. It really should've come out way earlier but I felt dejected after losing all my original footage. If this was a game I actually enjoyed maybe it'd be a different story but man was this one rough.

@bixnood bixnooding I actually did know about this. The issue is that for the encounters where you're being swarmed with enemies you usually don't have time to fully charge your magic or melee in-between attacks.

@bixnood bixnooding No I didn't mess with the FPS. I don't think the game is all that hard it's just very tedious. I'm glad you were able to squeeze a little more out of it though.

This was my first ps2 game. Bought it for only 2 bucks from gamestop. Great memories. Never could defeat the last boss as a kid.

Loved this game when it came out. I was too young and had no idea what I was doing, but I was a sucker for anything jrpg at the time. Keep up the vids man, this seems like one of those channels that'll just blow up and get really popular out of nowhere once poeple see all the consistent good content

You have to use AoE spells on the ship boss since most projectiles won't hit it. The window is small for sure but you can cancel their attack animation if you time it right, buying you some time. Take the minotaur for example, if your time your sword and hit it right before it hits you, you cancel his pushback, but it's hard to do.

If I remember correctly, the bite of lightning, and the other aoe spells don't deal much single target dmg. The hand of pyro is a little awkward as it misses often unless you time it correctly, but still the best dps for that fight.

Middle school me really liked this game. But back then i was so patient and i was grateful for any game that i was bought and i honestly didn't really understand what made games good or bad i just either enjoyed them or didnt.

@@TectonicImprov oh for sure. It's interesting to see regardless because every console generation has that experimental and ambitious phase at the beginning to see what sticks. It's nice to see the experiments, but some experiments just aren't fun to play

This was my first JRPG ever in 2002. 9 years old. It was in some odd dual pack with another game I can't remember. Lucky poor kid's sale. Definitely see how dated this game is now, and never finished it, but the mystery, and the graphics at the time blew me away. Edit: Thx for the review. Corrupted footage suuuuuucks, but it's big time appreciated.

Oh shit yet another human being on earth who has heard of this game besides me! Fun fact. I spent months beating this game on my ps2 without a memory card, and it's one of the games that kicks you back to the main menu when you die. That Minator boss made me restart the game like 50 times lmao

Had this game at launch. I've played through 3/4 of it 2 times over the years but I never remember much of anything from it. It's not awful but certainly isn't great. One of those weird games that few people are aware of. One of these days I'll boot it back up and finish it.

Jeez, tough crowd. This whole review can be summed up as "Git gud". We played this as 12 year olds and didn't have this much of a bum-ass time with the combat. Git gud, son. The game isn't perfect, and might not stand tall with the titans of the PS2's RPG repertoire, but what it does have makes up for it; with gorgeous music, tons of atmosphere in the art/graphic design, and charm for days. Easily one of my favourite games which successfully captures that classic sense of adventure. Listening to the monotone review voice, I can see that "adventure" was not felt in this soulless speed-date of ps2 games, it was just a bump in the road, and I understand it, but that's genuinely a shame. There's a lot of hidden depth, and little things to be enjoyed- like the anime fmv sequences were all made just for the game. They're a really nice addition, with the Orphen world being fully fleshed out. Play the game, emulate it or whatever, it deserves a visit for the casual JRPG fan. Don't listen to this guy lmao, he clearly is just having a bad time.

It's pretty insane that I watched your video on Summoner today because it was the first game I got for PS2 and I'd never really heard anyone talk about it, I just got home and this was the first thing in my recommended - the first PS2 game I ever rented. I hope this series hasn't ended, this shit is the real deal. Whenever I click on one of these mid sized channels reviewing niche games it's usually some amateur hour crap, but you're really good at this.

hahahahah, when i was a kid i beat this game with no memory card. sounds cool right? Well it was one of those games where if you die you go back to the title screen. That hallway boss man, singlehandedly made me restart the entire game over 20 times. Needless to say im pretty good at this game lol. EDIT: Also Vulcan will forever be ingrained into my memory. Best character lmfao

I beat all three storylines. The hardest for me was the spider cuz it kept throwing up that web you gotta cut through to get to it. I played when I was a preteen though and didn’t have anything better to do. Idk why my my mom got us this game, but it was one of the more challenging games I’ve played 😂😂

This is real time combat and not turn based. You can use your shield, spells and sword any time. In fact timing is super important in this game.

I was only thinking that one boss they probably hates the spider boss I didn't mind the boss fights it was the enemies that were more trouble. I don't remember that pyramid Stage it was a long time ago so. Hale wait the same girl who did EE mgs2 ? Oh and they even have the colonel in their colonel Campbell voice seems they heard a lot of Metal Gear voice actors or maybe it was the other way round

This game is pretty much a dumpster fire, but at least it has some nice tracks. I really like the battle theme, the title screen music, and the music that plays in Gaia’s tomb. Unexpectedly really cool and calming tracks respectively.

Even as a die-hard fan of the source material I have to admit this game was pretty bad. I love the characters, I adore the art design, I even like the time loop setting. But the combat in this game can go to hell, you described it perfectly. I beat all three paths but I can't remember any details. I think your final reward is that you are freed from the time loop and just continue with your lives. Which is something, but not all that satisfying. Still, probably going to replay this eventually just for nostalgia's sake.

I played the game back in the day and fell in love with it and the characters, orphen as a badass, snarky, asshole jacket wearing sorcerer was something very cool which I didn't see before, that and the hilarious dialogue between him and the bratty cleo and poor magnus/magic was amazing, when I discovered later there was an animated series I went for it immediately, although it was very hard to find anime at the time in Kazaa and Imesh :) Funny thing, I hated the anime dub because to me the cast was awful compared to the game, which was way better: Quinton Flynn WAS orphen for me, his voice fits like a glove, and Jennifer Hale as cleo sounded way more like the bratty kid that was Cleo while in the anime she had the voice of a grown woman.

So, if Shade was made up of former Quintet employess, then it _was_ made by the same people who made ActRaiser, Illusion of Gaia, Robotrek, etc. I'm not sure why you said it was made up of former employees and then concluded that it was made by different people. Also, at least in the clips shown, there is legitimately nothing wrong with the voice acting. The woman's voice is shrill, but that's the point of it. The only criticism of the boy's voice is that it's a pretty standard performance. But that doesn't mean mediocre or lifeless - it's stilol obviously a professional job.

Yes, this game is pretty bad, you can't even skip cutscenes, if you die you should watch all again and the english voices are just annoying. I tried to play it yesterday, after an hour and the spider boss killed me a couple times I was done, I deleted the save file and started to play ICO.
