Orrell St.James and Golborne Parkside dished up a classic in the Division 2 final at the Select Security Stadium with Orrell edging the game 20-18.
Orrell started brightly with Kelk opening the scoring going over from close distance and converting his own try. Orrell edged further infinite shortly after opening up their early lead to 10-0.
Golborne Parkside settled down after a nervous start and replied brilliantly with Nathan Bell crashing over from close distance. Craig Ashall knocked over the conversion to make the game 10-6.
A penalty infront of the posts resulted in Craig Ashall opting to take the 2 points and put Golborne 2 behind.
The momentum was behind Golborne with Stu Johnson diving over the line to put them infront for the first time of the match. Golborne go into half time leading the game 10-12.
Golborne got out of the blocks the quickest in the second half with a try from Stu Parkinson and Nathan Bell adding the extras.
The turning point of the game came when Golborne James Tunstall was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle. Orrell utilised on the extra man crossing the line curtesy of star player Bradley Kelk who bagged his second of the match. Orrell back in the game only 4 points behind.
With the game end to end it was Orrell who went over again to level the game at 18-18.
With minutes to go Referee Ray Keir awarded Orrell a penalty infront of the posts to edge the blue and golds infront 20-18.
With time ticking the drama continued with Golborne missing a penalty goal to take the game to golden point. Things got worse for Golborne when Andy Bentham was sin binned in the last few seconds which secured the impressive win for Orrell.
