Ok, so I am not at all impressed with this engine and the way it operates. Granted I have only tried 2 times but in the hundreds of engines that I have run before for the first time, very few ever presented issues like this one. Maybe it needs more time...? Maybe I am justified in never having 'bought' a pumped engine. Anyway, if anyone IS interested in owning this engine, email me. I am pretty much done with it at this point. I'll stick to engines that run well right out of the box, thank you. As of this comment, it is oiled up and put back into the box.

I wonder if you can gain access to the input of the high-speed needle and bypass the pump entirely. ONly real application I can think of for a pumped engine is in an airframe where the fuel tank isn't able to be placed where it wants to be.

Hello David. I am having a similar problem with my OS FS-91 pump engine. It was somewhat bad in the beginning but I have managed to get it somewhat sorted but not totally. When it initially appeared, only by accident I noticed pooling at the pump. I ended up replacing the pump. Next I noticed fuel was seeping out from the cover seam of the regulator. I ended up getting a new regulator cover. Now the engine runs but it seems that it is starving for fuel at high end. The peak RPM tends to vary and it does not quite reach where it used to be. I am now wondering whether the regulator might need to be replaced. Unfortunately OS does not sell the regulator parts. One will have to buy the whole carb and I am not ready to do that. Anyway I am quite curious to learn what you find out with this engine. Matt

@@ahdofu Those pumped engines don't seem to have the best reputation? I keep hearing about them being problematic, especially after being not run for a long time. Dried out membranes, leaky gaskets and valves and so on. Doesn't necessarily needs to mean anything, can also be user error all the time.

Don't give up, that engine has to work well.

It isn't a matter of giving up on it or not. It is clearly sub par for an OS engine and I have other things to spend my time on. I prefer to show engines that actually work out of the box as they should, not baby an exorbitantly expensive door stop. I guess when you are one of the few engine manufacturers left, you can produce garbage, jack up the prices for the engineering effort, and then sit back an wait for people to buy your engines. Nice plan OS. I do not recall seeing any stock pumped engines offered from Saito....

@@dmrcflyr2 I keep hearing that, qualitywise, OS peaked in the 70s and 80s and afterwards started to do decline somewhat again. What do you think about this statement? I have only a really small collection (despite my username, but I'm on it!) and not that much experience.

Ha! Wow Dave ..... In the hundreds of engine runs I've seen you do ... I NEVER see you work so hard!!! Ha Ha!! Oh mate .... You could 'feel' your frustration with it!! Great video ..Sometimes the videos that don't go well are just as entertaining!! Yep ..... pumped engines hey?!? Lots of frustrated people on the forums too I believe. Hope your well ... keep the vids coming mate.

With it as rich as it is , I would try turning out the HSN to 1.5-2 turns from closed . ENJOYED !

calls for a 3rd run i would say, dont give up! how about try not to concentrate on all these things at the same time but just take care of the carb setting for instance. ditch the rpm meter, start trusting the servo.. just do needle and run quality, throttle response. only experience i have with big glow engines is they sometimes want some 'idle glow assist'. i run my ff320 with some current flowing through the glowplugs when in idle. also for the carb setting extension i sometimes like using a solid piece of wire, not the steel cable it comes with. then you can feel the clicks from a distance.

Stay tuned another run WAS done. It might be a few weeks before it gets posted however.

It’s definitely running very rich on the low speed given the effect the glow driver has on it. I reckon screw in the Low speed needle half to three quarter turn and check after a full throttle pull. I’ve got a feeling the los speed needle greatly affects the high speed needle response on these pumped engines. Worth a try?

I have an alpha 81 that is very sensitive to needle changes and takes a good few seconds before the motor responds. I think that aspect is somewhat normal for os four stroke pumps. I did have a 120 which was similar. Both were run in when I got them and did/do run really well when set right.

Hi David, the recommended HSN valve turn is 2.5-3 but I ended up 1.5 turn which is a sweet spot for my OS 155a not very lean and it’s very responsive. I also ended up to end point my throttle on WOT reduced to 80% instead of fully open throttle because engine was hesitating on WOT and I got 8000 RPM from a wooden 17x8 prop. It’s pulling my 6.5kg spacewalker pretty good but as you mentioned I also like non-pumped engines better. Cheers from Australia.

Excellent information! Thank you.

I have run this engine a few more times now also. I too found that 100% throttle is not good. The throttle needs to be opened about 75% max to reach peak RPM. So what the hell sort of design is that?
@Captrez773 жыл бұрын
@@dmrcflyr2 yeah it’s weird and annoying. I didn’t expect such a failure from OS. I’m thinking to change the back plate and remove the pump and also replace the regulated carb with a simple non-regulated carb. Still searching in part numbers to see if parts from OS200s/OS120surpass can be used. Cheers for the update David👍🏽.

I saw both videos, i had the same behavior with 3 OS 120 pump-regulated engines, all with diaphrgram pump very strange and inconsistent HSN response that became a bit better over time; on the other hand the older 120 regulated with gear pump were way more consistent.

What were OS thinking?? Yeeks imagining trying to fly that ??? I have a brand new pumped OS 120 version 3 sitting in the box. What have i done?? hehe
