Alexander Bennett explains a technique in kendo called osae men, which comes from a word that means “pushing” or “suppressing”. It’s quite a subtle one, and he explains how to pull it off, what to look out for, and a few demonstrations as well.
Introductions: This is part of our series of techniques where we demonstrate and explain various kendo techniques, primarily focused on practical shiai waza, and is only available to you guys, our supporters, for at least a year or more!

-- ABOUT US --
Kendo World is devoted to Japanese budo (martial arts), and the dissemination of its vast practical, philosophical and historical aspects to the non-Japanese speaking community.
Although our primary focus is kendo, we also cover iaido, naginata, jodo, jukendo and tankendo, as well as other koryu (classical martial arts). Kendo World publishes books and articles of cultural and historical significance on various subjects related to budo.
Kendo World gathers an international network of experienced martial artists spread across Japan and the world. The Kendo World Team is constantly trying to improve not only the quality of the publications, but the strength of the international kendo community. We would like to thank you for your interest in Kendo World, and look forward to seeing you in our different events.

Thank you for the video and explaining how to apply pressure on your opponent. I’ve always had problems with this, can’t wait to practice it at my dojo.

Was reading some comments on high level gradings, and there was one comment that reads as follows: "During the tachiai are you only trying to strike men? Are you nervous? Is all you are doing coming in from the same side (omote; the left side of the shinai) and then striking the same way over and over ? I see a lot of this happening. To say it a different way: during this shinsa I didn’t see much seme from the omote, ura, or below the shinai; I didn’t see much osae (pressing) techniques and the like either."
