In this video we will be taking a day trip from Osaka up Mount Hieizan which is located just east of Kyoto and is home to Enryakuji, one of the most important monasteries in Japan. Before taking the cable car up the mountain, we'll take a delightful boat cruise on Lake Biwa, the country's largest lake. After exploring the ancient temple complex, we'll ride the HIEI train along the Eizan train line back to Kyoto and eventually return to Osaka.

The whole trip looks so serene and peaceful especially around the temple, river and beautiful mountain scene. Definitely will love to try the Buddhist's cuisine in the bento box and the last train looks so adorable like from a toy set! Awesome japan-guide.com!

I'm going to Japan in May for two weeks. I will be spending six days in Tokyo and am trying to plan the next six days somewhere else, every time I watch a japan-guide video that's where I want to go! These videos make each place look just so very beautiful, having a hard time deciding!

I would recommend making it more than just a day trip if you're coming from Osaka. Take an afternoon Keihan train from Osaka, spend the night in Otsu, and then make the next day an entire day at Hiyoshi shrine and Mt. Hieizan. Spend the night in Otsu again, and make your way back to Kyoto in the morning. You can enjoy Kyoto the next day before hopping a train back to Osaka. This way you won't be rushed to get on the trains in time, and you will get more out of those few days. Oh and at 1:34, I snapped a picture at that same spot from the same train!

There are three roots to go to Osaka to Kyoto except Shinkansen. One is JR-Kyoto Line(part of Tokaido-Line), another is Hankyu-Line and the other is Keihan-Line. JR and Hankyu-Line run along the north of Yodo-River, one of the main rivers of Osaka. In contrast, Keihan-Railway run along the south of Yodo-River. These Railway Company have heatedly competed to gain more passengers. So they make an effort to utilize their unique advantages. For example, JR-Kyoto Line achieved running 130km/h in a commuter train. This train is called “Shin-Kaisoku”(In English, Special Rapid Service)and connect from Osaka to Kyoto in only 27 minutes. Keihan and Hankyu-Line take 40〜50minutes. Instead of high-speed, they pursue comfortably. Keihan’s Limited Express or Rapid Limited Express“Raku-Raku” is used 8000 type-train(5:28). We can take this train in only train ticket. No additional fee. (Except Car No.6) This is very comfortable. In the same, Hankyu-Line runs a comfortable train called “Kyo-Train”. This train is also comfortable and popular. Recently, more and more foreign tourists come Kansai-Region including Osaka and Kyoto. In this reason, these three railway play an important role in this region.

I love this video! I have two quick questions. 1. How did you get those shots of the green trees in the mountain? 2. How much time did you spend at Enryakuji Temple?
@japanguide
@japanguide 9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! 1. Do you mean the shot at 0:03:? We got special permission to fly a drone on the mountain. 2. We spent a lot of time there to shoot the video, but if you are just visiting you would need a few hours. If you need more information on Enryakuji Temple we have a page dedicated to it here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3911.html Hope this helps!

Another great video. Is there any sort of Patreon or subscription I can look into to support this style of content? The mountain descent was very similar to what I experienced in Hakone on the way to the lake. It was a lot of fun seeing all the different ways a person can be transported in the span of 90 minutes!

Good question. For efficiency in taking photos for reports, most of our staff writers carry one camera with a wide lens and another with a telephoto. This way they don't have to spend time changing lenses.
