Oscar had heart, didn't duck fighters and always gave the audience a show. That being said, he did lose his big fights. He lost this one, he lost twice to Moseley, lost to Floyd, lost to Trinidad, lost to Pacquiao, etc...

Trinidad and De La Hoya were great boxers,but both made the mistake of thinking they could move up and beat a bigger and more powerful boxer in Hopkins. Those were great times in boxing.

People don’t remember Hopkins promised to outbox De la Hoya and not use his size on him. He tried for several rounds but it wasn’t working. Once he realized this he turned up the heat, muscled and started beating Oscar up. I know this is going to piss people off but I think Oscar took a dive because he was starting to take too much damage. He’s not the type to go out on his shield or eat a lot of damage.

He ate a liver shot, it shifted his organs a few inches. You can see it in the replay. I’ve been hit there, its no joke. When you get punched there it paralyzes you with excruciating pain. Think getting hit in the ballsack but instead a major organ

Both guys made a deal with each other. Deep down, Oscar knew he couldn't beat Bhop so he agreed to lose to him. But not in a brutal fashion! Bhop said 'okay'.

I remember Hopkins actually promised the public before the fight he would outbox De la Hoya and not use his size. It didn’t work, so he changed his tactics mid fight.

To me, this was as close to WWE as boxing could be! This entire fight was choreographed from start to finish! These guys are the biggest buddies in the boxing world, there was no way they were going to go hammer and tongs with each other! Look how the great majority of their punches were landing on their arms and gloves! Both just scammed the world and got paid!! They are staunch friends and business partners! I don’t remember much about this fight if it was very competitive? Bernard was too strong. I also remember Oscar saying he was having addiction issues. I wonder if those addictions affected his performance in some of these later fights. He did not look good if I remember right against Manny or Floyd. If I remember correctly he had a really good fight and was more like himself after this one. I think it was against mayorga? My timeline might be off a little??

Anyone can see, even someone without a head, that that "hit" pounched by Hopkins towards De La Hoya was a fake pounch. Because reflexing ourselves about De La Hoya himself and his trayectory as a strong and dangerous man, a skilled Lion at the boxing stuff, and nowadays, with that simple pounch he is down, he is out as a big pile of shit, oh my god what a disappointing show¡¡¡ It looked to me like a combination for retiring

I 100% agree. Oscar was the type of fighter that would never go out on his shield. He was getting beaten up and was looking for the exit sign. He knew he couldn’t survive to a decision like against Trinidad.

This is clear example of bigger talented guy will always beat smaller talented guy. Oscar did not possess enough power to thwart anything from Hopkins. The only way Oscar had any chance to win was use speed don’t commit and run before Hopkins could pull the trigger. Unfortunately Oscar was throwing too much like khan and staying in the pocket.
