He lost his Irish accent at Oxford and apparently suddenly gained a very eloquent style of English, most probably for its aesthetic quality.

I do not know how I have allowed myself to be ignorant of Oscar Wilde's life and works. It is shameful of me. Thank you for uploading these series; they will be the beginning of my love for his works and for the unconventionally lovely man himself.

Because he fell in love with a man named Douglas. And Douglas' father reported him. He went to jail and in jail he got a damage that killed him. But, I have also heard that he got a serious ear infection, and died under surgery. Pardon me if my english is poor, but it is not my native language.

What is the name of this documentary? Can one get it on DVD? Does it have its own website? I absolutely love Oscar Wilde (in fact, I have a link to this video on a new Squidoo lens); but this is the first I've heard of this documentary. Could someone leave some more info about it at my Inbox? Thanks in advance, and thanks for posting this!!

Well I read it in a rather reputable biography but perhaps it is just speculation! However I'm sure the experience of attending Oxford University in those days was more of a formal affair than it is now. It's probably true that students had to conform to the (all-be-it-new) Received Pronunciation of the time as it was part of a gentleman's education which was probably standardised and generic. No modern anti-establishemnt students with dreadlocks and estuary accents like there are today!

If it is indeed an original, you really ought to bring it to some conduct of collectionist for inspection. There are plenty of so-called 'lost works' of Wilde's, and surely, if this book of yours was one, you would be paid handsomely should you bring to a place which can publish it.

In fact, I think he was credited with saying "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious." Not that I agree with his statement, but I don't understand how one can come to the conclusion that he was proud of being Irish when he clearly pointed out his disdain for patriotism.

Oscar Wilde formerly resided at Tite Street London no plaque ? and seemingly a stained glass window in his memory at Westminster Cathedral yet served time where he had to work in forced labour, a paradox it seems still Lord Queensbury shouldn't have tangled with him.

He also said if you keep on telling the truth you were bound to be found out .now consider what the child molester said of the victims rights to complain " little boys should be obscene and not heard " He told the truth , and is found out . Little boys were there for his sexual gratification . Doesn't sound so funny now does it .

@celinebritgirl and there's the highly predicted 'have a nice day' or 'good luck' put on the end of a message that does nothing but try to belittle the other person. i've seen your type before. you thrive on the internet, thinking you can talk in a way which you wouldn't if you didnt have your anonymity or being miles away in front of a computer. it's also of your type to consider your verbal abuse as some sort of skilled affair. so i'm asking why all this when all i asked is how are u affected?

you even somehow got my second comment removed... after completely ignoring the questions i put to you out of simple intellectual curiosity. 'why do you try so hard to degrade others? what do you think about anonymity?' i think they fair and non offensive questions. you chose to completley ignore them and immediatley somehow tell me that i was slandering you... that's truly irritating as have all your other 'defensive' comments been. btw im in the top 2 percent of iq test takers. polymath.

@celinebritgirl yeah i hadnt really done the research on him. i mean those psychologist trying to say you're mentally ill if you dont socialise every friday or whatever. no i don't see myself in that but nice insult. i think you are one of those psychopaths. you comment just like them - the care you put into constructing insults. trolls are like minor cyberpaths. from what i've seen you're the latter. but maybe im wrong.

@celinebritgirl no i dont think you are this other person. however this other cyberpath you are very similar to. revelling in sarkasm, implicit offensiveness, claiming someone is obsessive after you've tried abusing them. some of your insults like this other guy can switch to very vulgar and sexually orientated yes. i'm 100% sure that boltane account is you.

@celinebritgirl you're not sorry you tried hurting my feelings - who are you trying to convince?. you've kept at it even in your last comment. you've generically assumed how a mysognyist would perceive you and that has no relation to the person you're actually speaking to - me. but i still just can't imagine a woman relishgin in 'defending' herself like you. i read you had your gender changed. no offense.
