ORDER "Oscar, With Love" NOW!!! www.oscarwithlove.com
From us to you, a full master class with Oscar Peterson! This was filmed during a very special session in Marciac (1997). During this class you also hear from "The Great Dane", Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, the wonderful Martin Drew, and of course the fantastic Ulf Wakenius. At the time this was shot, OP was teaching regularly at York University as well as doing classes all over the world when on tour. Sit down and soak in all that he has to say. Be sure to 'like' and share with your friends!

I attended a similar type of concert (not a master class) many years ago. Oscar left us all spellbound. He was a beautiful human being. The swing feel just coursed through his veins. That night will always stay with me. High musicianship indeed.

Getting up there to 200K views in 10 years. Impressive, but if this world was in a better place in terms of what has happened culturally, we should rightfully be seeing 2 million or more views. May these 3 brilliantly talented gentlemen RIP (together with a wonderful guitarist still with us). Goodness knows they all deserve it...

We have been blessed to have the technology to document. Oscar Peterson, in the tradition of Art Tatum, was the greatest of his generation encompassing left and right hand technique. Unfortunately by this time in his life, he had had a stroke and lost control of his left hand.

I would have been honored to have been in the same room with this man. Truly one of the greats, the likes of which we do not often see. Gracious human being. Although I never knew him, and he had passed before I was truly aware of his greatness, I miss him. We attended the Oscar, With Love concert in Chicago earlier this year and it was incredible. The CD is wonderful too.

aniuxarey Right I am an old pianist and every time I stop persuing these kind of technical excercizes regardless of the reason, I pay for it. Not just in a vehicular sense but creatively. Somehow being practiced up gives you the space to "hear" and execute better ideas.

That's "Reunion Blues" at 12:11. Notice that that Oscar Peterson is playing right-handed because he had a stroke in 1993. He's still better with one hand than anyone else with two. And he has so much class that he doesn't even mention his handicap..

I learned organ and keyboards and now doing piano. Some assume they are same but are not. Most start on piano but I did things other way around, and IMO, piano is much harder to play then organ & keyboards, Interesting how he said about the high and low notes played on piano to tell bass player and drummer and guitarist coming when to come in on certain sections of whether he plays on high or low keys. and when he said best advice is to listen when playing. and the CFG is great to practise for speed and control.

Oscar (who in an earlier interview was influenced by Franz Liszt) and Glenn Gould and the guy who puts it all together for me is Keith Jarratt. Vale Oscar! Even the greatest musicians, composers, artists DJ's have shows where people seem unimpressed. The Doors were once booed off the stage, Bob Marley's LAST show was as an opening Act for Lionel Richie in Pittsburgh, Beethoven was heckled many times, Straussed The Blue Danube bombed when it premiered, Miles Davis had to contend with people talking during most of his shows. Don't even get me started on the Rite of Spring. If the people in the audience don't seem to appreciate it, than maybe YOU should focus on appreciating it more.
