Miklos Rozsa certainly deserved his Oscar for his magnificent BEN-HUR score! But I was pissed! pissed! that Bernard Herrmann wasn't even nominated for his thrilling NORTH BY NORTHWEST score! Nowadays, I'm just happy that these great scores are remembered.

A lot of Bernard Herman scores from Hitchcock films were snubbed which is stupid. Psycho and Vertigo should have been nominated and won.

SO very very glad that Mr Rozsa was given this Award! He has composed some of the most remarkable themes that I’ve ever heard (in my lifetime anyway) Who can ever forget the music to Ben Hur…..El CID etc!!! Just epic and extremely poignant IMO 😱👍👏👏 Surely a God given talent! 🙏🙏🕊 And I was only 7 when this was broadcast!! Lol 😂 yet, even now, many decades later I still love ❤️ to listen to his wonderful scores!!! (15/8/2022) from uk 🇬🇧🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊💕💕💕

Bloody Previn forgot to mention Robert Franklyn, Conrad Salinger , Al Woodbury and Alex Courage who arranged and orchestrated the score. Damn!!!

Alexander Courage... in 1965 wrote the theme music for a run of the mill one-off sci fi series called .... Star Trek.

Many years after this I heard Andre say that one of the things he did at MGM was something "no musician should ever do: I was an arranger of other people's music".

They should use Singin' in the Rain Music when Gene Kelly walks in, it's even better and more well known than An American in Paris.

Alfred Newman earned 42 Oscar Nominations and won (I think) 9 Academy Awards. Alfred Newman's favorite scoring of a motion picture was THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. He and Miklos Rozsa clearly two of filmdom's great film score composers!!

Andre Previn is no slouch either. He was nominated for 11, and won 4. By the way, John Williams now holds the record with 48 nominations and 5 wins overall for music (including scoring and song).
