Its been repeated a lot, but he never thought of Ai or Sarina sexually. Sarina was someone he just really got attached to, he spent his residency there, and she was one of his *first* patients. Another thing to note is that Aqua is not an adult in a child's body, he's a child with the memories of an adult. His brain and body has to develop the same way as a baby.
@aquatazer
@aquatazer Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point to make at the end, it’s specifically said that he retained his memories. But he still clearly had to sleep a lot, have his diapers changed, etc. like a baby. So he’s incredibly intelligent, retains his memories, but still has to go through the growing-up phase again. And the thing is, if you’re growing up as a kid again, it’s not like he’s aging mentally. He’s sleeping a lot, being taken care of, having to go to pre-school, etc. That possibly even has negative effects on mental age, I mean four years is a long time to be treated like a baby and not be able to act older than your age. And he had to continue that for the next ten years after. It would be incredibly draining.
@sumicmusic
@sumicmusic Жыл бұрын
is that true? he can speak fluently and doesn't have to relearn how to speak from the get-go, his brain seems pretty developed. He had to have his diapers changed and sleep alot most likely not to just stand out, as we can see his sister somehow climb out of her cot, something a regular baby wouldnt be able to do, and speaking quickly and fluently, once again, something a baby cant do.
@snowwolf342
@snowwolf342 Жыл бұрын
@@sumicmusic Remember that Ruby said "This body sleeps a lot", meaning they actually have no control over their body needing sleep, peeing themselves, and other things. They have their memories, but we don't know when exactly they received them. Since they mentioned that they *have* to sleep and have their diapers changed because they can't do it themselves, they likely have to develop everything like normal, except their brain knows things from their past life, so speaking is more knowledge than physical growth. Walking is probably more a skill of balance than physical growth as well. I'm not a doctor though, so what do I know. Then again Aka Akasaka is ALSO not a doctor (afaik)

@@snowwolf342I mean, that's how the body works. No one is born with the brain fully developed, they just got their past life memories, as if they were to sleep and then woke up, but in a baby body lmao

@@sanaan0168 my interpretation actually is the opposite. she kept lying and putting on that happy face and etc to try and save her kids. you can tell from the words she says after the stalker leaves that shes extremely broken up over missing out on her kids growing up and yet she keeps a smile and happy tone for them. ultimately her keeping that facade up is why the killer ran off as i assume he expected her "ugly" side to come out after he attacked her.

If it makes you feel better: if this show makes you feel uncomfortable, even with the whole age thing, it's on purpose 😊 it's a criticism of idol culture and in japan many idols are quite young.
@vlai9018
@vlai9018 Жыл бұрын
I agree! I felt that the uncomfortable part was intentionally included, and it effectively criticized the idol culture and got reaction from alot of people like you guys. What I got from it, along with the rest of the episode, was: 1. I think it's essential to differentiate between the art and the artist's personal life. Just because an idol sings about love, but technically can't love them all, does not mean they are dishonest or insincere. Love can be expressed in many different ways, and everyone experiences it differently. While it's true that romantic love is typically reserved for a select few people, it's possible to feel love and affection for many others, including family members, friends, and even fans. 2. It's crucial to differentiate between the art and the artist's personal life. They did show the Doctor realizing there is more to her as a person than just cute "idol" 3. At the end of the day, as a famous person, when you interact with strangers/fans, it is common for some of them to have a parasocial relationship with you that they have built up in their minds, acting as if they are your best buddy, while all you really want to do is your job and pursue your passions, so you can return to the people you truly love - your family, lover, and friends.

Don't forget that this girl Sarina caused this man to switch from treating cancer(which is so draedful that it's basically synonymous with death), to facilitating birth, bringing life into the world. Sarina, with her liveliness even though she likely didn't have a future, changed this man's crummy outlook on the world. Of course the impact she had on his life would be big enough for him to stan the same girl she did. In a sense, he was carrying Sarina's will. We probably should've had more time with all these thoughts but then that would've put the actual plot trigger later in the story and that's tricky because this whole first episode until Ai's death was just a prologue.

With mushoku tensei you are supposed to be weirded/creeped out, until Rudy has character development. At least half of the story is basically about Rudy's character development. That is why so many ppl like mushoku, you see this creepy guy grow into a mostly respectable guy. S1 of the anime is basically where he is at his weirdest, at the end also. S2 he will become less weird but still weird. It won't be until like s3 or s4 where he will become more and more respectable.(s2, s3, s4 not out yet.) Then with oshi no ko I never got the overwhelming creep factor, like with Rudy that you all had. It is a little bit creepy, but I also see it as sad mostly. She was probably one of his first patients, and I know first patients for doctors impact them a lot even if they live but she died.

Another fact that people are ignoring when making this criticism is that the man is a gynecologist, someone whose job it was to maintain a professional distance between himself and women's bodies. This separation extends when he's a fan with how he maintains distance between himself and Ai, even as her son. So when he says he cannot cross certain boundaries, those words mean a lot more than just his own personal horny bonk stick.

Woah, when I first saw the first episode, I was just like "This guy is being respectful" and I was amazed by how he idolized his idol in such a nice way. I still don't think that was weird at all, even when I heard people talking about it.. Maybe because I don't watch many isekai animes which are disturbingly sexualized or something. Like, if he's a creep, he must like Ai when he's first seen her face on the TV, but it took a long time to make him starting to like, and the reason is just because of Sarina's death. After all, he's a child with the memories of an adult, not a adult who suddenly turned into a child

my interpretation to the guy's admiration to the idol is that it's like the idol is a doll.. it has cuteness we adore it because it is pretty to look at. dresses nicely on stage and with make up. like we appreciate its beauty. he explained it also on how he became a fan of the idol it's bc of one of his patient who idk it looks to me that he sees her like a little sister.. when that patient died the coping mechanism that he had is to watch the idol that the patient admires cause it reminds him of her. even though the guy is like a super fan, he still sets his boundaries like the ones that the guys mentioned (the guy avoids nursing) cause he knows it's not right. and trust me this guy as a fan is pretty decent enough, there are others who are worst cause i've been a part of kpop community and seen things that are not acceptable on how they treat idols.

@@sortastupid Idolizing can be seen as a very wholesome act, and the doctor's obsession only goes into the territory of "weird" because of the age difference but in no way does it go into the territory of "creepy", unless he shows the slightest indication of being a pedó. It treads a fine line, and exposes people who don't think critically. There are even subtle hints in those moments which mock people who take the co-worker seriously. Not that there'd be anything weird if the co-worker _was_ serious, but it is that way to call out certain people. Or perhaps it is just meant to be funny, who knows? But it does end up doing the former. You also have to keep in mind that Aqua is NOT the 24 y.o or something doctor, but a baby with an undeveloped brain with MEMORIES of an adult man, and is very vulnerable to a lot of things. He also can not possibly be aroused by his own mother because such is the law of nature. This was addressed in Mushoku Tensei where Rudeus couldn't feel anything from his mother. So Aqua's behaviour is pure idolization, which turns everything very wholesome, especially when you realise that Aqua is truly Ai's kid. And that level of writing is why I'm sure the author is exceptional.

Something to keep in mind, The stars in their eyes are not actual features. They are just a representation of their state of mind. The Shining bright like a Star. And when a star collapses it becoming a black hole. Aqua's and Ruby's star on their eyes changes colour depending on their state of mind same was the case with Ai as the stars in her eyes became dark when she was talking about her past and Aqua's became dark at the end of the first ep and multiple times in this one. Its kinda like a representation of how they are feeling. And it is called the *"Hoshinogan"* in the community😂. Its also a representation of their potential cause Ruby eventually gets stars on both her eyes in the manga. So no, they can't tell that they are related to Ai by looking at the stars cause those stars are not actually there. Not as it appears to us atleast.

Idolising someone vs sexualising someone are two very different things. Idols in Japan are sometimes that age and it is supposed to be weird. I for one am also someone who would find sexualising even 20 year olds by 30 year olds weird so turning her into an 18 year old like you suggested wouldn't make it any less creepy. But I wasn't weirded out by the MC in first 30 mins because he never sexualised her. Also you guys aren't the only one who commented that the girl could've been made older but that would defeat the point of showing the reality of the showbiz I think. Personally, I think the beginning was necessary, uncomfortable though it was the story was fully aware with that given the nurse character, as a functional beginning point of a story it works very well. His superfan attitude on top of him being a jaded adult that is relatively intelligent versus the girl's situation of being a young cancer patient made Aqua and Ruby's motivations entirely different on how they handled Ai's death. If he wasn't that person I honestly don't think you can ever tell the same story (unless you hand wave so much that it becomes a BS story) because a toddler wouldn't be able to deduce his father's motivations and think of infiltrating the entertainment industry from a young age to take his revenge. Let's imagine that he's just a random toddler, then he would just hear stories of his deceased mom and wouldn't put the pieces together that it was his dad's fault for her death. If they made him old enough to figure that stuff out on his own then Ai's career as an idol would have been long over for the fan to care since most idols retire very young. If they only showed it from the doctor's perspective without the rebirth the doctor won't have any means of infiltrating the entertainment industry because his connections are in the medical fields. As some suggested, if he was just a doctor and not a super fan I don't think he would have the same passion to take revenge... he would play his cards safer and at most try to protect his sister and that being the focus of the story. Lastly, I don't think he sees Ai sexually. Remember this man is a Gynecologist, someone whose profession relies on him separating his physical desires for women's bodies in order to perform his job successfully. He knows his boundaries with women to the point of still maintaining that separation as Ai's child, he merely represents a certain type of person whom we can best view this story from. I would bet that Ai's character wouldn't be as memorable if we didn't see her through his eyes.

About you being uncomfortable with the first part i will express my opinion as one who like anime and manga and have a lot of friends that are into idols from japan and south korea. From what i saw the doctor got interested in the idol Ai. He is the usual comical stereotype in mangas of the "otaku", a diehard fan nothing more nothing less. He likes her in the same way i would like a character from an anime so much that i would buy action figure, mangas, cosplays or get excited whenever he appears on screen, or in the same way a fan would react near their idols like BTS or even One Direction. From the outside it looks weird but this type of eccentricity is considered normal or "just right" in these fanbases. There's nothing sexual in the way the doctor see Ai or too much strange. In the asian pop industry parasocial relationships between idols and fans are the main foundation of all things. In this episode they show the pros and cons of these relationships, on one side a strong fanbase that wants to "protect" their idols (the doctor and Ruby), on the other side we have extreme fans that look at idols in an obsessive or possessive way (the stalker). Leaving out for now if parasocial relationships are correct or not, i think we can all agree that bringing in to this industry teenagers every years younger is the real problem that we need to concentrate. Sorry for the long comment guys but this is something really close and dear to me bc too many friends of mine are bullied just from liking "kids cartoons" or guys with a lot of make up

The reasoning behind the ending of episode 2 is chapter pacing. It's how chapter 13 ended, so it looks like the average pacing of a normal episode will be 3 chapters. With episode 1 covering the first 10 chapters and the season planned for 11 episodes, season 1 will cover up to chapter 40 of the manga if the pacing stays consistent.

I think the scene where he’s just idolizing Ai and the other nurse ridiculing him is a meta take for liking idols or idol culture in general. Just because you are Japanese and/or live in Japan doesn’t mean everyone there likes idol culture(in fact there’s many that idolize America or any other things) but just making fun of someone like “Oh, you really like this girl huh? You’re avoiding work to watch her? You know she’s 16 right? Are you a creep?” I feel like that’s the kind of vibe this scene is trying to portray.

I would like to add about the series as a whole. What's it about, besides being a revenge/murder mystery, it's also a criticism and exposing the ugly truth that is the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry, at least in Japan. It doesn't just stop on idols or the acting field, it expands and explores to the whole of it and it would definitely be interesting to you guys. Also, this second info is not really important (and probably would forget this tbh) but it might be fun once you guys will witness it in the future but I'll be vague for obvious reasons, there is a very special and unexpected character that would make a brief appearance later down the line, like, later down the line, I'll just leave it there. Manga and Akasaka fans would understand what I'm talking about, hehehe...

Feel uncomfortable? To be honest this is nothing… wanna feel true uncomfortable go watch Perfect Blue. Oshi no ko for sure got some inspiration from that but it still focuses on the issues of the idol presence in Japan. The fans, branding, the image of innocence need to be maintained and more. Perfect blue really goes into that back then basing on the industry for it in 80s/90s while Oshi no ko goes into thag in the last 10ish years. Even the op song to the anime if look up the English lyrics it goes into the dark side of the idol business.

Isekai in Japan, before it became really famous now, is very much akin to portal fantasy. This is where your character gets transported to another world, specifically one that is very foreign to the character. Most of the time the line between portal fantasy and time travel stories gets blurred too. But in this case, Oshi no Ko seems more like a reincarnation story.
@marar8045
@marar8045 Жыл бұрын
Yup! It always bothers me when people constantly call this an isekai. Isekai literally means i-different, sekai-world. Plenty of isekai where the MC was summoned there and didn’t reincarnate, because the point is that it’s a different world, not the reincarnation.

I think we're meant to see the idol industry like we americans might look at, for example, Texas high school football. Oh sure, it's an unhealthy culture of obsessive adults demonstrably causing harm to the children who participate, but we can watch an episode of Friday Night Lights without spending the first half of the episode reassuring everyone in earshot of how morally outraged we are about it.

Definitly a cultural thing, i am from germany and the first half wasnt that bad for me, the parts with the stalker and the one scene, where he said: she is a hopeless idol and he is a hopeless fan,(his face expression) where a bit more creepy. I also know the manga so i can tell you, that the first half is later important, so its not something that could be removed. In my eyes he is a normal fan, like someone who likes to enjoy his favorite football/soccer team play, goes to a game or two and has a flag, while the stalker is more like the hardcore fans, where if you even say one wrong word about his team, he will punch you immediately. This is all about the dark side of entertainment and the fans, so there will be more things in these directions, so if someone really gets creeped out in the first half, then the rest of this show might not be to his liking.

I know you guys dropped this show, but I appreciate the honesty you have with the weirdness of idol culture. I’m a kpop fan, so I know alot about the obsessive stalkers, parasocial relationships, etc. One thing I do want to explain is how adults become fans of these idols. Automatically. it does seem weird or creepy if you’re not used to it. But truly, there are some people who become fans without viewing the young idols romantically or sexually. They’re simply a glimpse of youth that we can no longer have. It’s refreshing to see somebody who works hard, has a nice personality (publicly), and of course looking pretty is the cherry on top. I guess you can view it like with anime characters, there are tons of adults who also become fanatics of anime characters, and they’re usually characters in their teens. They wear their merch, have them as their phone backgrounds, draw them, etc. You can say they’re just fictional characters but you could say the same for lolicon and shotacon (which I obviously do not like or agree with).

It's very intentional that the beginning part is creepy, idol fans can go extremely hardcore, and the mangaka is known for being very into fandoms and different otaku/nerd cultures and inserting that into his work (minor Kaguya manga spoilers I guess). This is genuinely what a lot of intense fans would be like and he addresses it.

Wow, seeing you coming with all kinds of theories, that doctor had some unhealthy obsession is really a thing to see. I just came to conclusion, that he became friends with them, as for if it's weird or not, that's up to you to decide. As for him being this Idol's super fan, it is intentional. Because until the end he didn't see Ai as a mother, he didn't call her mom a single time through the entire episode 1 and 2. Notice that Ruby doesn't have a problem with calling her mom, but Aqua instead calls her by name. I think, that indicates something... ;)

I'm def one of the viewers that stick around for the discussion. im always a bit disappointed when reactors end the video RIGHT after the reaction (understandable if its a Patreon bonus content perk of course). but with this show especially, it's interesting seeing the change in opinion and the thought process. like we know you guys arent deep into Japanese culture and the almost taboo things that woould never fly here~ I watch quite a bit of anime and its common to see at least 2 jokes about it in anime and for the most part I just understand its a different standard for the audiences overseas. this episode was actually one of the least weird ones ngl (ive dropped anime for it being farrr more often to the point of being too much lmao like Seven Deadly Sins). I totally understand it and everyone has their own places where they draw the line, I just think it was also using it to make additional points about the idol industry. Hell, even more wholesome moments in shows like Spy x Family have what'd be western taboo subjects that make people side eye it LOL but I hope it's not the main take away from those either ^^ I'm glad you guys are still interested, because while it's understandable to still have your own discomforts, I get it. I am super interested in this show but I could never show my more "normie" friends because they'd also be "wtf" about the first 10 minutes...and its sad that that can be a barrier to a great anime for some people. but those things come with it and it takes a bit of nuance and knowing your own limits.

I understand being slightly uncomfortable with stuff at the beginning, I think I understood a lot more right off while reading the manga because I'm used to idol culture. What saves the show is the critique of what reality is like for idols and the entertainment industry. They also show that the guy when reincarnated isn't seeing Ai sexually though. I think they do a good job of just showing how fanatical they are rather than being crazy with it

I don't think the show intended for aqua to be sexually attracted to ai but they could have done ore to make it not seem that way, like his reactions to her videos could have been more enthusiastic instead of fawning, and when the other doctor asked what he'd do if she was his patient or something, he could have responded that he thinks that's gross and how its purely platonic or something dramatic, he would still seem weird but not in a sexual way

FYI, this isn’t an Isekai, it’s a reincarnation anime. The ‘Isekai’ genre portrays someone being transported to another world, usually through death, and ends up in that other world as either themselves, in a new body, or as a baby just born. But since he is still in his world, it is not considered an Isekai.

Even more so how those two heal from such a past. It has to be said, there was no sexual desire between the male to the idol. Just a fan who has great love for their craft. Is it creepy, sure. But that is the message they address throughout the series along with many others.

I think its a genius play that ever non-spoiled person going into this thinks that its just an Idol slice of life anime and the fact that Aka Akasaka is the writer makes that even more believable. He's written Love is war which is peak Romance and kinda Slice of life so its perfectly believable. And the first 40 min does make you think that's the direction its going with the Twins chemistry and the comedy but then BOOM 361° turn. It turns into a Psychological, Murder mystery, revenge plot show. And it only gets better from there. Also did you guys know that originally, Ai was never going to die. But then Akasaka changed it cause Ai was just too good of a character and it would seem as though she was the MC when it was always gonna be Aqua and Ruby. And killing her off also raised the emotional stakes(damn right it did😭) and opened up alot more plot points to explore. It makes u wonder what the OG story would be like.

29:51 "I'm so happy they turned the creep off" I think it's supposed to be weird and awkward early on, because both of them had these images of Ai they'd built up in their minds, like all fans. But then by the time they were older, they'd gotten to not only properly settle in but get to know and love her as a person. It got less awkward because they stopped treating her like an idol. They're still FANS of course, but the love is much more "biased and enthusiastic because they're her kids" kind of love than anything else

i was looking for some reaction of someone getting creeped out with how oshi no ko started. i personally dont mind it as much as you, in mushoku tensei and oshi no ko the authors clearly show how this kind of thing exist and is problematic. the topic of age difference and age of consent are really hard, ive never come to a conclusion myself, there are many cases where the line gets blurry because its such a matter of feeling, and i find the reicarnation trope to be a really good way of talking about this topic without getting criminally graphic and still creeping you. 1:28:18 i am not expecting it getting boring because its writen by the same author of kaguya, kaguya sure is a slow burn but its a genius work and i dont think that this author would let us down

also, i find cool that you awknowledge the culture difference, you are very white and very americans(it seems) so is really important that you are aware(because most americans think they own the world and nobody can oppose them). as i said, i dont have a clear answer myself, and you dont either, so its also good to awknowledge that, if we dont have a good and clear enough point to make about why it is bad, we are just being moralists when we oppose this kind of affection, even if its creepy for us, we should refrain of acting like we have the best morals and be very clear of being a personal problem being unable to tolerate it.

Honestly, the getting blasted isn't because people don't understand the culture, it's because the show/manga is literally entirely about the culture of the japanese entertainement industry. You're supposed to be uncomfortable with the obsessions, it's meant to serve as commentary. The whole series is going to be delving into the uncomfortable shit that happens to people behind the scenes. But the character work that was actually going on was missed because y'all kept ignoring what was clearly being portrayed on screen to complain about how uncomfortable you were. The creep factor absolutely did taper off, it just wasn't blatantly obvious. It was done with a degree of subtlety you don't actually see in most works of fiction in general, not only within the anime sphere itself. You're expected to come to terms with the idea alongside the character. Akasaka Aka is quite a talented writer, and, if you give it a rewatch with this in mind, you'll be able to tell how much care was put into addressing problems and concepts right when you as the viewer/reader would have wanted it the most. Funnily enough, if you're interpreting it as the author intended, these moments should happen right when you feel about ready to give up on the series BECAUSE of the creepiness factor. I'm glad y'all eventually came around to it, but perhaps it was a bit unnecessary to justify your reactions by insulting your/the anime's fans. It felt like you were just handwaving a legitimate problem people could have with your reaction by saying there's no way to have an issue with it without being completely clueless and/or out of touch with reality. Edit: oh, and an aside about idol culture, Gorou is about as close to a normal person as you'll find among that fanbase. Idol culture by design attracts some extremely fucked up people. If he wasn't that creepy, it simply wouldn't be believable for people who've actually experienced idol culture. Your suggestions for changes would've ruined what the intent was, and it would've given the themes explored much less impact. In this case, you really do need to accept that it is indeed a cultural difference. There's nothing at all even close to idol fans in the US, arguably the closest would be how obsessive teenage girls can get over boy bands, but it's absolutely not the same. For context, the average fan of idols are males aged 18-65, and the average age of female idols is anywhere from 10 to the ages of 25, and their entire shtick is being pure and incredibly cute and innocent. It's fucked up, and that's why the anime ia fucked up. It's realistic. Oh, and just so yall know, Japan just this year passed a bill to raise their age of consent from 13 to 16. Last month. So again, cultural differences. Oh, and the drinking age indeed is 20 in japan.

I really like this series cuz unlike a lot of other idol anime’s this one goes more into depth of the dark side of idol culture, and how messed up/weird things can get(this goes along with my next passage/topic) while also having its own twist with the ‘murder mystery’ aspect. It’s completely understandable why the 1st part(I personally separate ep 1 into 3 parts, 1st being “meh/weird”, 2nd being “ok this is getting better/picking up the pace”, 3rd being “wow/ that actually happened, can’t wait for next ep”)of ep 1 was uncomfortable, and although it might of seemed like he romantically liked her he didn’t, he was just a REALLY REALLY big fan of her and had an obsession over her. The ‘reason’ for that is because of him loosing one of his 1st patients during his residency that he ended up becoming somewhat friends with because he would always hangout in her room when he was slacking off and she was a really big fan so after she died he was trying to ‘Honor’ her death by supporting her favorite idol after death. (Pretty sure y’all went through everything I talked about(I forget things really easily+I’m tired rn)but in case y’all didn’t then my comment is to conform some things y’all said and to explain his ‘reason’ for being how he was) Also love y’all’s reactions and I’m looking forward to seeing how y’all like the rest of the series😁❤.

I like the beginning you guys came up with & I could see it working just as well if not better than this one. Him not knowing much about idol culture & only knowing it through the little patient would have set it just as well. He'd have still taken it seriously to protect her & her kids & all other scenes would work just as well, even his death. It would also have been healthier if his admiration for her grew as he became her son & got attached while seeing her struggle first hand. But again this one still worked out well since like you said, they stopped the creepy soon enough. As for his attachment to the kid, I personally don't find it weird. He has spent a really long time with her & got attached to her while being influenced by her own wishes & dreams. He probably was still new in the job too so it might have affected him more so. From reading the manga you can get that she wasn't even his patient. She was just a kid he found out who was abandoned by her own family to die off there, so he always came to her to keep her company (they said he used to do it to a lot of patients who didn't get visits, altho most were old ones unlike her). For someone like him who had no one in his life, he might have felt a sense of kinship that only grew while knowing & later losing her.

Even if, they go through some slow burning, I really dont mind it. They got me hooked with that premise and the execution was phenomenal. About his obsession with Ai, I feel like it was much needed because a kid going after his parent's murderer feels boring in comparison. With him idolizing her prior it gives his motives to kill her much more life imo. And I didnt really get *that* uncomfortable because at this point I take most anime with a grain of salt with the "that's just japan being japan" mindset. True that if it had been a show just about that I would've stopped watching but the fact that they used his idolizing for his personality drives it home for me. Also I didn't get any feeling where he sexualized her or been actually attracted to her, he was a fan of an idol, that's all.

The manga in fact spreads dark foreshadowing of the characters when they are older after what happened to Ai throughout with the director being like “I lost everything with Ai” up until the final chapter which is the end of volume 1. Yeah I fuckin despised it, and especially Rudeus his character pissed me off so much. But I decided to give it another go when around season two dropped. He's still a little pervy but he's becoming more and more mature now.

@@Nozzinator Yeah thats understandable, i havent read the manga but every time i hear about the manga or light novels i hear about how that kind of stuff only stuck around at the beginning and was weird on purpose to show how he was initially a bad person, and it was a major plot point for him to overcome his old self and become a better person.

I've noticed women tend to be more comfortable when reacting to the first half. I know I was watching to see if he was treating her as a sexual object , and it passed the bar for me. He respects her choices, looks away if she is exposed, and treats her as a person in person. Doing that is so normal to me. Seeing you guys be uncomfortable is the best part of this reaction video because it's making you think and talk about it.

Did I just misunderstood or did these dudes not realize that the stalker commited sudoku after offing Ai? To me it sounds like they're still referring to the parasocial stalker instead of the father when discussing stuff.

I think your interpretation of it while understandable, is a mistaken one. I can for sure tell you most people were not creeped out by the intro, maybe you should even do a poll to confirm it. Also you don't need to be a resident of Japan to understand how fucked up their idol industry is. Half this show illustrates how messed up and predatory the industry is, and how ancient it is compared to the lives of idols in the west. There's a ban on dating there for a reason
