Being in a medical profession, I must confess myself, wat OSHO is saying is 100% true. It's hight time for all of us who r willing to offer a effective tool to treat psychological disorders to consider eastern vedic system to understand ourselves better before treating our patients.

I'm studying Psychology and all I can say imo is that Osho is so right about everything he said, which is one of the reasons i'm considering dropping the studies. Psychology knows nothing about who we truly are, all that psychology knows is at the most shallow levels of our existence, once you get to know yourself deeply, psychology as they teach it becomes a meaningless subject. I've learned about myself while doing the 10 days Vipassana course a whole lot more than a whole year.in University.

So does learning psychology in university is joke? Dude how do one know himself. How are you so sure that after doing Vipassana a person knows himself more as compared to that in the University? Maybe Vipassana could work but directly proclaiming words like we can learn more there is saying like I learnt more about modern science from religious books than from scientific papers.

It all boils down to purpose, why are you doing psychology? Sure you might love it but it is also for a job at the end because if not for a job then might as well study at home, we have alot of resources if not all with the internet nowadays. And what is the purpose of knowing oneself? How does one define what knowing oneself is? What exactly do you know? And what exactly do you want to know? And if you do come to know whatever it is you are searching for, I hope you find a good use for it.

I remember reading in Jung's alchemical essay's that the western man should not attempt to integrate the eastern methods of spirituality & mysticism. Everything OSHO was saying confirmed my previous suspicions whilst I was reading through Jung's essays. How could two human beings be told they are not allowed to sip from the same chalice? The intellectual caliber of Jung is undeniable but I fear that in our western universities we are learning more & more about less & less (actually I feel rather certain about this).

Seeing psychologists myself, I have benefitted greatly and have immense respect for one woman who helped me the most in my entire life. I will be forever grateful and rember her always. If I am like an onion, she helped me peel off many layers to get to the center of myself but there was a stopping point. That point was the mind, only half way through the onion. She uncluttered my mind so well I'd walk out of her sessions feeling clear at peace and blissful. She nudged me the right direction and I left her practice for the last time. I had grown and come to know myself better through experience not intellect. She told me it'd be up to me now to go further. I was one of her biggest treatment stories and I know she was proud of it. And I was happy for her. She taught me how to see my thoughts and feelings and be aware of them with acceptance. How to reprogram my mind for positivity. Wonderful woman. I started reading Buddhist and Hindu scriptures and meditating as often as I could on a daily basis. This is the other half of the onion. And next week I will be attending my first 10 day vipassana retreat. The work have put in myself has trasnformed me and I will continue to be transformed every day. This is the path that psychologists didn't give. But she was in the ocean with me to help me keep my head above water when I couldn't myself. I am forever grateful. I agree with OSHO that they can't show you your true self, but there is a different benefit that is very real and positive. Thank you to my psychologist and OSHO alike. 🙏 The psychologist was using CBT - cognitive behavioral therapy if anyone was interested.

Psychologists provide a great service. I have relied on them at one point in my life, and I doubt even followers of Osho would deny their effectiveness in helping us improve our emotional health. But while a psychologist may know *about* himself and how his mind works, there is a greater chance the psychologist (especially at the time this recording was made) does not truly *know* himself. That is where meditative practice comes in.

''They knew nothing about themselves, so how can they help you to know yourself?'' So true! Now I understand why, more than 35 years ago, an ex-classmate from university who was a fan of Carl Jung was suggesting to me that being a fan of and studying J.Krishnamurti was a mistake. He he was asserting very strongly that we can't understand what these eastern mystics are saying! Sad... J. Krishnamurti has been a major influence in ''confirming'' and developing my spiritual health. Nevertheless, I am deeply disappointed that I discovered Osho only recently. What a waste of time! I consider him a master as great as Krishnamurti.
@Marcus_Sylvester
@Marcus_Sylvester 4 жыл бұрын
@Freedom and Art You got me here... So pardon me, it will be a little long. I did not say that studying K. was a waste of time. Studying K. has very far from being a waste of time. He has been a spiritual father for me and initiated me to meditation. I said that discovering Osho only recently was a waste of time. I should have added because of my prejudices toward him generated in large part by the propaganda against him, I stayed away from his talks all those years. 😒 I consider Osho to be a master as great as Krishnamurti. And I can see many links to K. teaching in his insights. But Osho is unique in the ways he approaches meditation and spirituality. On the one hand, K. is very cultured but far from being as cultured as Osho (Osho had a library of more than 150000 books...) On the other hand, K. is concerned about concentrating himself rigorously and strictly on the psychology related to self-knowledge and meditation, has a very rigorous intellectual approach in helping is listener to understand their thought processes in order to lead them to meditation. So it was far from being a waste of time studying Krishnamurti. As I see it from my relatively short exploration of Osho I have had to date, his approach is more pragmatic and direct in his ''pedagogy''. He doesn't try like K. to make the listener understand the psychological intricacies of the mind in a rather ascetic way, in order to initiate the listener to meditation. Osho put himself more at the level of the listeners and make them experience directly and ''experimentally'' glimpses of the meditative state in a playful way. Instead of trying to explain, he shares his meditation directly. As I see it, K. is an exceptional ''psychologist'' of authentic ''spirituality''. Not to say that Osho is not, far from it. He is very conscious of the value of his vision and awareness. But also, I think his exceptionally vast culture enable him to have a broader and more playful vision in his ''pedagogy''.

Soho is referring to Ramana Maharshi, also known as Maharishi Raman. His teachings aim at self inquiry on Who or what am I? Once you realise your true self which must be distinguished from ego which is the illusory or false sense of self, you attain enlightenment. Carl Jung is afraid his whole life learning would be shattered or collapse in face of ultimate reality. Ibrahim Balyani a Spanish Moslem mystic said: What’s the purpose of understanding the whole world, if you don’t even understand your own self?

I’m studying psychology and I agree with osho but at the same time I think psychologists ‘ methods can be useful for people with mental deseases even if they ( psychologists) can’t know themselves 100%. Anyway, psychologysts must do a lot of practice, studies and therapeutic sessions before they can become “ psychologists” cause they must be aware of what they are and what they do. Anyway, true psychologists try to “ give a name “ at the pain of the patience, but it doesn’t mean that they classify people just with a simply name, sometimes it helps to lead in one direction the therapist. Every patience is UNIQUE.

Yes I agree Osho. Wild Wild West was a slanted view of this man. They tried to portray him as "bad." I see a wise but human man. I wouldn't worship his feet but I see a mystic, with a deep spiritual understanding. His ranch became a mess and probably shouldn't have been made and yes he was part of that but a true mystic knows you only find the answers on your own. He's just a facilitator. The people who were in power of the ranch went too far and I'm not sure if Osho put them up to that. But the irony is the hypocritical people in America who were prejudiced from the beginning and continues to this day, anything that challenges what people have been brought up to believe. I also see he enjoyed the materialistic side of life, he did become excessive at points, which was not great and happens but that is also part of humanity. He was not a saint and I think that's what people need to get rid of, this black and white thinking. You must be a saint in order to be "wise." No. In order to be wise, one must first be a fool and be willing to face your own foolishness to grow in conscious awareness. He saw truth, he enjoyed and lived the human experience, the good, bad, and in between. I've always drawn much wisdom from his talks. Be a mystic, come to your own conclusions. If you're polarized and stuck in division, you will not be able to do this. The spiritual path can be isolating bc you must become your own guide.

I don't dare presume why but the way I view psychology is similar to the way I view religions, they actually can help, up to a certain point, and then they have to be dropped as the attachments that they are and one must move forward or they become obstructions. Psychology, self-help books, and even scriptures can help to a certain point, and even dare I say it...Osho talks, but then they must be dropped and you have to move forward as an individual. Osho did not want mini Osho's being created, he wanted individuals to realize their nature, not mimic or copy others. Saying this, I was enrolled in a Ph.D. program for Clinical Psychology and I woke up one day and realized that this field can no longer help me because I have moved past it, but I am still quite stuck on Osho ;)

In the aspect of knowing oneself, I will have to agree. A psychologist is not helping anybody to get to know themselves. That's mainly because it's not the point of the psychologist to make you know yourself. They are there to help you understand yourself, not know yourself. There is a big difference here!

@@Nerex7 you are right in a sense. psychologists help you with your make up, with your mask, with your personality. atleast thats my take on it, i heard that they go more into meditation now too, then partially they do the same as osho, but they wont be able to guide you very far, as they dont know themselves ^^ they can only hand over the techniques osho talks about and in the end its better to listen to someone who has experienced it, instead of a parrot/well fed computer, science says that those vibrations one emmits make a huge difference in the subjective experience, thats why it is so powerful to be in the presence of a master

The problem with psychologists is that they never share their own diagnosis and shortcomings with their customers in the first place. (Yes customers not patients)The business is built on marketing the image of a problem free professional whom has sorted it all out and mainting that image at all costs. Their work is based on how much trust they can harness, just like any other lovely con artist :)

Your observation nails the nub of what AILS all Sciences, not just Psychology. All Sciences, including Mathematics and Medical Sciences are Congenitally Flawed and Fallacious AND what sustains them till date is the Tribal fatal disease called Peer Reviewing that gives them the unconscionable Academic Credence & Practice. Which in turn survives on the Trial & Error mode without any kindness spared for the Costs - the number of human lives lost in the process! Equally Tragic if not More: Philosophy, History , Spirituality , Transcendentalism, Spiritual Guidances and other such are also Just as Flawed, Half-Baked, Fallacious and PSEUDO as the Sciences themselves! Having gone through a MFT training program I can tell you 1) Many people, IMO, go through an clinical psychology education because they believe that by having the tools that they are somehow "fixed" or a righting a wrong done TO THEM as a child without having cared for themselves enough to care for others. 2) Some actually do know themselves enough to realize that tools are not enough and its the person wielding them with compassion that will be the most helpful to their clients. 3) There is a serious level of understaffing at many clinics and yet that doesn't change the workload thus leading to issues of self-care, burn-out, depression, ect. 4) Every single human is flawed no matter the self-work (shadow work). 5) Trust is a basic human issue. In western cultures, IMO, trust is so abused in everyday culture that people want to trust but are deathly afraid to trust for good reason. So when someone mentions counseling to somoene who NEVER had any experience with therapy fear is the the most common response. be kind to yourself. If you can, be kind to others.

No psychologist is divine. We do not help people. We help people help themselves. And we too need that support because we are humans too. So when our lives or times are really bad we too go for help. Adding that to know oneself is not the aim of psychology. That is the aim of life. Happy are the ones who attained it. Psychologists who have difficult lives can and do suffer. But that does not mean we are unprofessional or cannot help others.

Dr. Nita Joseph, you are probably missing the point, unfortunately. You may want to check out “Beyond Psychology” and “Psychology of Esoteric” - two mind blowing lectures of Osho from 70s. I used the term Mind Blowing purposefully because Modern Psychology stops at the Mind. The point where Modern Psychology ends was the starting point for eastern mystics for tens of thousands of years; they knew what is beyond it. The sage Ramana is one of them who C GJung purposefully avoided. Osho is just awesome! Again, check him out.

The funniest things in the comment section are people assuming that Osho didn't read Jung's opera. :))) He literaly said he read Jung's journal, jeez. Osho wanted to say that Jung knew psychology based on observation of other people, not through himself. Yet, Jung is probably one of the most influent scholar of the 20'st century. Osho is a big one too. Instead of taking sides, you should enjoy that we can watch the clash of two stars. Nowdays, in the 21'th century we weren't able to produce a new Jung, a new Osho, a new Sri Ramana, a new Nietzsche, etc.
