The tram, also known as "trikk" or "trikken", together with the "T-bana" metro system, is the backbone of the public transport system in the norwegian capital. The first horse-drawn tram line was opened in 1875, followed by electric trams in 1894. Today, the 40-kilometer network is served by six lines, with the line 13 also using a section of the T-bana line 3. Some routes, especially in the suburbs, are mostly seperated from road traffic.
At the time this video was recorded, two generations of tram cars were in use: The high-floor SL-79 class from the 1980s was in service on the lines 11, 12 and 19, while the bidirectional SL-95 cars could be seen mostly on lines 13, 17 and 18. In 2020, the first cars of the new SL-18 (CAF Urbos) class were delivered. They will replace the entire rolling stock in the near future.
