The Oslo Philharmonic with conductor Ingar Bergby perform Entry March of the Boyars by Johan Halvorsen in Oslo Concert Hall. The performance was a part of Oslo Philharmonic's Mellomspill series in the spring of 2020.

Well done! They are now on their way towards Kiev to cut the head of the snake. I like also the transcription of this piece for piano by Edvard Grieg. 👍

Perhaps I am hallucinating, but Mengelberg from nearly 100 years ago brings more character to this than anyone. Bergby is so diriect and smooth, you'd think the point was reaching the end. Meanwhile, Mengelberg gives a lesson in tempo adjustments, and building of form, and brings real rustic character to the whole proceeding. It takes the nerve of a great conductor to just let the orchestra play- I wonder if Rozhdestvenky ever recorded it- he had the necessary confidence.
