Keith, this was an excellent video. I found the historical discussion around frame relay particularly useful. Now the concept of NBMA is very clear. I actually studied frame relay during my network+ course. However the significance of this technology in the context of ospf was never discussed. Thanks again for clarifying this topic.👍

Hi Keith, thank you for this video, but I was wondering why is this content not available on the OSPF skill on CBT Nuggets that you had taught. Ironically I went through entire CCNA 200-301 course on CBT nuggets but I dint come across this topic and I had a similar question regarding the OSPF Network types on the exam. Unfortunately I dint pass it the first time and I am taking the test for a second time in October.

Thank you Noel Cutinha for the feedback. In vid 233 it discusses broadcast networks, and the function of DRs on a broadcast network, and in vid 236 it is all about P2P networks that don't use a DR. I am sorry if you missed that, or if it wasn't reinforced properly. My intention was to help you get ready for the certification, and I am sorry I didn't do as much as you needed in those videos.

Keith , I'm been watching all your OSPF videos , I have one more to go , my question is on broadcast type , doesn't the router function is not to allow broadcast traffic to pass thru the router ? or it makes an exception for OSPF traffic because its not been generated by a node , but by the router ? Thanks

So , sir do you have to enable ospf on all the routers in a network or only on the 2 routers of your choice?
@KeithBarker
@KeithBarker 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question LAWRENCE THAMSANQA. Only enable OSPF on the routers where: Those connected networks need to be shared with other routers You want the router to learn about routes In short, if you have 5 routers, and don't want to use static routes on any of them, then all 5 would need to run OSPF.

Hi Keith, Just wanted to say i'm a huge fan and wish i had found your channel sooner. I failed the old CCNA one week before it expired, i was devasted. It took me 8 weeks to even look at CCNA and pick it up again and at which point i found your channel, which i am working through. I wish i had found you sooner. I'm not sure if you are still answering questions about this video , or if someone else can help. Every video you do, i try to copy the topology but build it in in packet tracer. With this i finally figured that i needed to use the router 1941 to be able to have gigabit, serial and fast ethernet ports. However now i have another issue, i cannot configure ip adresses for the fast ethernet ports between r4 and R3 - it just gives you switch options, even though i have also tried enabling ip. Is this not supported by packet tracer or am i doing something wrong? I've googled it and i don't seem to be missing any steps and spent so much time trying to figure this out. thank you in advance

why in 11:39 R1 is the DR? he configure R1 with 1.1.1.1 while R2 with 2.2.2.2 RID. R2 should have been DR for this segment right ?????????????????????
@KeithBarker
@KeithBarker 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Kwstas for the great question. The election process for DR and BDR doesn't preempt an existing device. Because R1 was already up and running, and became the DR earlier (before R2 was running OSPF), R2 when OSPF was started on that, even though it has a higher router ID, (and even if it had a higher priority value on it's interface) would not push R1 (the current DR) out of the way. Instead R2 saw there was already a DR, and that there was no BDR for the segment yet, and so R2 became the BDR. Excellent question. Glad to have you here.

The 4 network Types of OSPF char of yours is really confusing and not really organized. Put down bullettpoints of each 1 and dont make it cluttery. I cant really figure out the 4 network types is Dynamic,Multi-Access,non-broadcast,broadcast or NBMA or Auto neighbor. I had to wait for you do the ip ospf network ? in the CLI.

Thank you Anders. Let me know if this (below) is useful: Broadcast, uses DR, auto neighbors Non-Broadcast, uses DR, manual neighbors Point to Point, no DR, auto neighbors Point to Multipoint, no DR, auto neighbors (for old Frame networks) Point to Multipoint Non-broadcast, no DR, manual neighbors (for old Frame Relay networks) I appreciate the feedback, and your time. Thank you.

@@KeithBarker That is a better overview. I thought I saw it in your slides that something had Dynamic Neighbors, and the 5 network types you wrote to me is does not contain the dynamic neighbors,I guess I must have missed something. Thanks for replying to me with the overview. I know you are very knowledagble Keith and you want to explain things on your own and thats good, but with facts I think it would be great if you have facts that is concise and not so clutterly, atleast for me. I'm writing it down as the video progresses, the things that is important and when it came to the network ospf types it was somewhat not organized enough for me to follow and write down what I needed to know.
