Actually, I'm pretty sure the writers did purposefully make them a couple. Not only are they compellingly written in that direction, but they're also portrayed by LGBTQ actors. You can look it up: Robin Lord Taylor (Penguin) is openly gay and married, while Cory Michael Smith (Riddler) is openly bisexual, which pretty much fits their sexuality. Look at me in my speckled eyes and try to tell me they didn't actually intend for these two to be shipped together..

@@dafilmqueen556 the writers definitely tried, but they kept getting shot down by producers and FOX executives, which was super common when the show was airing (and still is now) :/ there were rumors that they were supposed to kiss in the finale but it was cut.

@@alissiamiller7291 there are a few reasons that lesbians are more likely to be seen in shows, even though I despise the reasons. 1) its easier to write off lesbians as being “good friends” (though this is normally for kid shows) 2) a ton of people feti$hize lesbian relationships and are more ok with them on screen for that reason. (I’m only censoring feti$hized because I don’t want to get banned)

Honestly, the more I watched Gotham the more I thought "lmao those two look like me and my best buddy". I'm a sharp-dressing and scheming megalomaniac with a wee bit of egocentrism, he's a former nerd that basically does stuff. If we have to do something usually he is the one doing research (example, we gotta go to Rome: "So, when do we go?" "The 15th" "At what-" "We take the subway at 3:30 PM" "And where do we step down?" "At the end" "How much is the ticket?" "7,00€" "Is there the subway when we have to return?" "Yes" "Will it rain?"
