Laurence Fishburne was handsome in the 90's. I watched this movie on cable TV in 1996 because I also like Shakespeare's plays.

OST was having a BOGO free. Two for one deal is hard to pass up. ;-) Honestly, I think both films are produced by the same people. It's cheaper to use what already works.

Lots of film trailers, especially in the '90s, recycled themes from other films and trailers. It was meant to keep the same "tone" as the film it came from.

When a 90s trailer goes overboard with its 90s-ness. In a time... Also notice how they don't include too much Shakespearean dialogue. Guess they didn't want to confuse your typical movie-going patron lol. I remember this version being decent, though Sir Laurence Olivier's version (with Frank Finlay as Iago) is hard to top.

Definitely needed a dictionary for that one but if you like the crafty language and the drama you'll like it.

Lo leí en español y se entendió muy bien (con algunas pequeñas aclaraciones sobre palabras que hacía referencia Shakespeare). Pero tal vez en inglés sea difícil entender el contexto del lenguaje de aquella época. Y no como fanático de Matrix, en primer lugar no puedo creer que haya una película de Otelo; y en segundo lugar, no puedo creer que actúe el negro 😂

i was gonna watch this to help me understand the language of the play. is this a good adaptation? keep in mind my professor went to an ivy league school and is super picky. i heard there is a lot of stuff added to this film that didn't take place in the play

being the product of an ivy league school, your professor should understand that this is an adaptation, just like every other adaptation for the past 400+ years, times have changed, certain aspects of the original have come in and out of favor but unfortunately the politics have not changed, the green eyed monster of jealousy has not changed, manipulation of one man against another for personal gin, or even for sport has not changed, so the basic elements of the story remain intact 4 Centuries later... a tragedy indeed.

they omitted the english subs in apple TV, so hard to hear their archaic sentences. I turned on spanish subs to help a bit, but no ablo español either 😭 i want a refund
