That was real nice giving him a warning. 20 over is a serious ticket. However, as a retired I disagree with him saying driving out of route was illegal. I did it a lot when I wanted to stop by my house.

Now days a warning is worse than a ticket. You can fight a ticket in court and maybe get no points, but a warning you still get the points and they are weighted over 3 year period, so if the points per violation are only 7 it will actually be 21 for the first year, then 14 for the second and 7 for the third and final year. That officer was wrong about no points for a warning. This is all thanks to large mega carriers

@@josephvandergraph1666this is true. Unless he just gave him a state warning ticket and did not do a level 1,2, or 3 fmsca form with a violation on it. But being it’s state and he asked for all the bills, etc he probably got screwed. A 15 over is bad. Even as a warning.

Great trooper/trucker interaction. Even giving that trucker a ticket for 9 mph over would have been a huge break. 20 mph over isn't minor, especially when DOT hears about that. Glad they won't. I drove Hwy 61 thru Clarksdale many times. Loved that drive. Birthplace of the blues. Home of Robert Johnson, the 'Crossroads', and Delta Blues.

Not all drivers traffic drugs, illegals, or anything else. O/O's and most company drivers can pick their own routes - Its his time and his fuel that doesn't make him guilty of anything other than possibly poor route planning and not watching his speed.

I applaud both gentlemen for the respect they showed each other. As a professional O/O I think the officer is not properly knowledgeable in how all the trucking companies operate. The man has his company’s complete agreement with his route. That’s all that matters. The officer can not dictate the direction of travel. If he does feel that there is more to what he sees. Than call for a dog and go from there. Again respect to both professionals.

Officer did a pristine job and covered his bases. A warning was sufficient. As a FedEd Truck Driver I so appreciate these law enforcement officers. DOT, well let's not quibble too much about those guys.

Plus, unless it's a specialized load (nuke waste, oversized, over weight, DOT cannot determine your route, as long as you're on truck routes.

You see?! That’s exactly the way you’re supposed to behave during a traffic stop. Pull over immediately, be polite, respectful, cheerful and willing to take responsibility for your mistakes. Often it will turn out just like this. BUT DON’T try to run, get an attitude, whine about some perceived ‘racial injustice’ or resist arrest. But of course if you have something to hide, you run from the cops, make insulting accusations towards them and resist you can expect a completely different outcome (and rightly so). A+ to the driver and also to the trooper.👍

I drove OTR for years and logged over 3 million miles. I've never heard of "getting in trouble" for "being off route". As an owner operator, I always went the way I wanted to, whether it was the shortest/most direct route or not.

@@randomjoe4106 LOL. As an O/O you are paying for fuel & maintenance. Yes Sir, you can go any way you want. As a company driver, I do believe his company has a say so into his routing. I do believe they would demand him to stay on the most direct route. (Shortest Distance). A lot of drivers sneak for friends or family along their routes. That's why they have the GPS on the trucks as some of the company drivers need to be baby sat. (Micro Managed).

@@pchamp_76 Your right, it isn't a law. But when you add the out of route miles into the factor, what is the cop to think? He didn't pull this guy over for nothing. He was excessively speeding in a commercial truck. You start asking questions like where have you been & where are you going, you see they add up. That's an indicator of drug activity or other illegal activity. When 1 + 1 is not equal 2, there's more to the equation. I thought the cop was proper in his questioning & remained professional about it. So did the truck driver act professionally in his answers. That's why both had & showed respect for each other during this stop. I'm glad it worked out the way it did.

Yeah, I'm 63. Drove for 38 years. You can use any road you want as long as it's a passable route for commercial vehicles. There's a few Lackawanna towns and counties in northern PA and upstate NY. Safe travels and God bless every one! PS, 53 ft trailer is a long walk to the front!

Trooper Morohus was incorrect stating that the trucker was not on the correct route. Coming from Clarkdale, MS he comes down hgwy 61 to Leland, MS, catch hgwy 82 cross into AR, the driver either go 65 south or to I-20 or 165 through Bastrop, LA then catch I-20.. He doesn't have to go back up 61N to hgwy 49 to get back on I-40. The Trooper was incorrect but i admired his professionalism in the so. Great job

You do NOT have to run a certain route. You can go to Florida first, if you want. Certain hazmat/oversize loads/restricted weight highways... all require a certain route or restrictions. I have driven a truck and traveled whatever way I wanted, for a different view, go around construction like at Benton, etc...

Arkansas Law (IANAL, so don't know if this applies to this specific route) The National Network (or National Truck Network) is a network of approved state highways and interstates for semi truck (tractor trailer) drivers in the United States. The following Routes are acceptable for Arkansas semi truck drivers: No additional routes have been federally designated; under State law STAA-dimensioned commercial vehicles may legally operate on all highways which, prior to June 1, 1991, were designated as Federal-aid primary highways.

what's most coincidental here is that the driver states his father lives on the route in Clarksdale MS and he helped his dad due stuff such as a heart attack. This was when the train was going by. When you consider all the wrecks between Memphis and Texas going through Arkansas i40 and i30, the backroads on average are probably as good regardless. The driver stated at the end, words to the effect of , he'd start taking the 30 to 40 route intersection instead. IF so, he won't be stopping by his dad's.

As a trucker myself I know he can run any route he wants to as long as there are no restrictions for trucks, police cannot tell u what roads to run as long as three are no posted restrictions for said road.

11:00 - explaining his speed after passing - In MN we have a law for this reason - On two lane roads, speed limit is increased by 10 mph when passing.

Always grab the piece of paper when offered by the enforcement agencies when they ask you to break a seal. Covers your backside and proves that it was not you that broke the seal on your own violation. But, under the direction of an enforcement officer. You should also get the officer to verify that the seal is the one that is listed on the documentation.

The State Trooper is not Telling the truth the Seal numbers are on the same paperwork he asked for so all he can do is see if the seal numbers are the same or if not no the doors.

You don't know what you're talking about. The trooper didn't "not tell the truth". The trooper and everyone knows the seal number is on the bill of lading. That's not the point. Drugs are aften hauled even with the shipper's seal being placed on the trailer when the drugs are put on the trailer before when it's loaded and before the seal is placed. That's what the trooper is checking for.

Would be a nightmare only if the trucker luckily avoided all 16+ rounds being fired by the trooper thru the cargo doors if he saw that door swing shut. It is lawful justification for using deadly force.

I've always wonder why there's so many pursuits in Arkansas when I watch those videos from NST. Now I know. Those ASTs down there are really dickheads. Just completely run the driver through the 5th degree just over for speeding. Constantly fishing to something even though he sees that that driver has crossed his T's and dotted his I's. Glad to see this driver had everything in order. As a CDL holder myself, that trooper is wronge about him having to stick to a preticular route and I'm very surprised this driver didn't get a ticket with this stick by the book pencil head.

HAHA I hauled ONE(1) SKID from Atco NJ to smith Kline and(pharma)to Knox Ville TN that had PAPER flyers(advertisements!)and the co charged $600!And this was in the late 90s!

To all questioning the trooper's comments on the driver's route, the Arkansas law does have a section on routes for trucks (semi's etc). Perhaps you should look up the relevant section and see if maybe the officer had a valid point for Arkansas law before making the statements you are making. The trooper asked where he was coming from and going to and the driver, at that time, gave no other information, so the trooper would know the routes through his state. A bunch of you are making blanket national statements, when each state passes their own laws.

My company tracks our speed. Small family owned company of 20 trucks If we are ever 10MPH for over two continuous minutes we lose a 5k bonus that they pay out every 6 months. For an extra 10K a year I will gladly stay at or near the speed limit They also can see our routes but they don't bother us unless its ridiculous. It's a fantastic company

4 miles shorter to take the route this driver did as to going back north on 61 over to Brinkley. Quick simple google checking on that and claims is way out of route. There is eld instructions to check simple driving too. Super cool officer though for warning him.

Fascinating piece, NST. No harm, but I guess rules are rules. Pavement management a factor here; meaning money goes to the DOT route the officer chatted about, and that’s why truckers should run it?! Interesting.

@@tankerman7666 Yes I know but in ARKANSAS they have STATE TROOPERS AND HIGHWAY PATROL in which HIGHWAY PATROL mainly DEALS with SEMI TRUCKS…. It’s rare to see state trooper pull over a semi truck but HIGHWAY PATROL will pull over a SEMI in a HEART BEAT

@@jasonmccrow6696 No "Highway Patrol" in AR. Some of the troopers are DOT certified. All are not. Still ASP. A non certified ASP trooper is limited on what he can cite a commercial driver on. Anything controlled by the DOT rules must be written by a certified trooper. Speed is writable by any trooper. Had there been drugs, he could have held the driver. There would have been appropriate personnel dispatched then.

As a trucker of 13 years myself I’d take it to offense if someone told me I couldn’t run a highway that I pay ifta, taxes on. If it’s a truck route and I want to take it I should be able too. If you as an officer want to pull Me over and talk about why I’m here and look inside the trailer. Feel free. Awesome officer though. Nice guy.
