Thank you for making these videos OT Rex!! As a visual learning, I find it so incredibly helpful to watch your vids and OT Miri's. Really appreciate you passing the NBCOT and putting in the time and energy to come back to help the rest of us successfully get through this process! Therapists are the best =)

Hi, it's a good video. We were taught that a 1:8 ratio is recommended for self-propel and 1:6 for assistant-propelled. 1:12 requires a lot of space and is super save ratio usually followed by Social Services when fitting fixed ramps.

Great visual! I had a comment about the footrest clearance...When looking at the footrest clearance you actually want to add 2 inches to the overall seat height/leg length (from popliteal fold to heel) so it has enough room to clear objects on the ground.

FYI! In our wheelchair world, we always go with width first then depth. But overall awesome presentation. Good info:

I took the exam a few days ago and now got my results... I doubted myself and I should've left my answer for the door width as 32 instead of 34

It's the worst feeling thinking of our past decisions. The "I should have" "I could have" but all we can do is look forward and grow from it. Don't be too hard on yourself and know that you're learning and going to remember this very well in the future. Sending you my best!

standards and reality are two very different worlds. Hip width + 2 inches is crazy for many wheelchair users, especially independant paraplegics. What I've seen as typical prescribed chairs in the U.S. are absolutely terrible for the welfare of an independant individual. Chairs so wide that people are swimming in them. Backs so high they have trouble pushing properly. The only people prescribing wheelchairs should be experts in the particular disability concerned. And above all, people with years of lived experience need to be listened to, for they are the real experts.
