No other group sounds like Otyken - they are unique. The more you listen to their songs (and there is alot) the more you will learn about Siberia. Most people are clueless when it comes to this region. More to Otyken than just music.

Блин, ну перед тем как писать ерунду, хотя бы поверхностно ознакомьтесь с темой. Какой Алтай? Красноярский край, Тюхтетский район, с.Пасечное. А теперь посмотрите на карту. То якутами их нарекут, то монголами.... Похоже старая советская школа географии обошла вас стороной. Внимательнее надо быть.

I found Otyken about a year ago and listen to everything they drop. "ummet ozcan x otyken - altay" is a video i recommend you to react to, it's a great collaboration.

I found them about 3 months ago, and they are my favorite band.. I believe they are Siberian, the Name Otyken (OH too KEN) very loosely means Sacred place. and I VERY MUCH AGREE, that altay is a song very worth giving a try. Or, the song KYKAKACHA. Running the captions on their videos is good.

I only found them about a month ago, and I'm obsessed. I can highly recommend this recommendation. Also, the ladies are rather easy on the eyes. I watched footage of a concert from Moscow called Pulse Of The Earth and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Very talented group.

Otyken are fire. (They pronounce their name as ot-oo-ken). You ought to react to 'phenomenon' which is phenomenal and 'Altay'. And if you haven't already, you ought to react to another russian artiste called Shaman.

Там немцы, якуты, поляки, русские, украинцы, беларусы, тувинцы, татары, алтайцы, буряты хакасы,корейцы, японцы, китайцы, казахи и другие малые народности.Только не понемаю причём тут русские?Я про русских нечего не писал. Вам просто пить надо меньше.

I read that in a number of their songs (if not all) they sing in Chulym, and there’s about only 44 people left in the World that can speak it…… also that Otyken came into the Music Scene to bring awareness to that fact and revive their dying language. That’s awesome.

The Hu is mongolian... which is sorta near-ish where Otyken are from. Otyken is Chulym (an ethnic minority in Russia, specifically Siberia) and they live somewhat north-west of Mongolia. Otyken writes in the Chulym language which is a Turkic language. I love Otyken, and I like "Storm" well enough but I definitely wouldn't've chosen it for a first song to introduce somebody to Otyken. I would've gone with "Phenomenon" or "Legend."

Imitation of the sounds of nature (sounds made by animals and birds, for example) is quite common in the chants of the indigenous peoples of the East: Siberia, Altai, Mongolia... Well, throat singing, where without it ...)))

In answer to your question at 7:22, I think she is trying to convey a warning; to sound “scary.” She is not saying anything, she is just vocalizing. In their other songs, she vocalizes a lot - meaning she is just making sounds with her voice in time to the music, without actually saying words.

My dude, TURN ON THE SUBTITLES. The lyrics are there already. Love these guys. Otyken is pronounced OH-tu-ken. It's written in cyrillic. Thus the weird pronunciation. The band is from Siberia (the most North and East) and they do pop-style remixes of a lot of traditional songs. You should check out Genesis or My Wing next both by the same group.

Great reaction! Another very original electrofolk band is the Ukrainian band Onuka. I can esp recommend PEREMOHA, TIME, ZENITH, Don't Fly Away.
