For the second half of the second quarter I saw the Mike Stoops defense show up again. Egads. OU’s offense is simple badass though. I hope the defense continues to improve. Correcting 10 years of bad defensive strategy and philosophy won’t be fixed overnight, but do it as quickly as possible.

Even with a 3 TD lead OU still lets their opponent jump right back into contention in just a few plays. 2nd qtr was almost a disaster for OU.

Defense definitely played better. Technically the D only gave up 20 points. Special teams and penalties hurt us today.

My critique of OU's defense, as of 10-20-2018: Overall the defense looked better today against TCU, but that was against one of the B12's worst offenses. We should look for continued improvement if the changes are real. D-line: OU's front four lacks athletism, and they look very undersized in strength, speed, and agility, not talking gross weight, but speed and size. The front four simply look average (one exception would be Ronnie Perkins, he looks like real top talent). OU shouldn't be average at any position. OU should have elite plays in their front seven, no excuse for such an average D-line. I just haven't seen that top D-line talent in a long time. Linebackers: The linebackers look good, very athletic, but just don't always seem to play smart football, especially at the Mike position. Murray is very athletic, strong, and fast, but is often out of position when playing against top ten talent. Bolten has been the one shining surprise this year to me. Kelly is another ultra-physical talent but has disappeared...very strange. With smarter Mike play, the linebackers could be elite. D-Backs: For seven years we've heard that the defensive-backfield is young, but improving...Where? When? Haven't seen it! The D-backs are good but not great. They look undersized and just overmatched against receivers and running backs. The safety play is just average. Radley-Hines is simply too small, did you see the TCU backup QB throw him to the ground like a rag doll today? Tackling was better, the D-line play looked improved, backers seemed focused, overall I would give them a B-grade...Not great and certainly not elite, but good enough to win the B12 championship.
