Subconscious still works in moving the fingers/thing you put your hand on. Also, the lights went out because they are on a sensor and timer. In a building such as that, it is cost effective to not have a light on when no one is using a room.. The reason why it more accurately touches the letters and numbers when you're not blindfolded is because you can see where the planchet is dragging your fingers better and will allow it to glide more precisely towards that direction. Now you may be thinking it was the elevator going down, but no, it wasn't. If it was then the leaf would've been bouncing up and down a little. This leaf turned a full 360⁰.
